The Auckland Aces had their first match washed out but bagged a win in the next match against the Central Stags by five wickets. They will now take on the Canterbury Kings who will be playing their first match since 23rd December. The Kings played only one match thus far which was when they faced Otago Volts in their first match. They failed to defend their total of 184/5 against the Otago in a last-over thriller in Dunedin.

For the New Year’s fixture, the Aces were forced to make a couple of changes as the limited-overs leg of the home series against Sri Lanka is set to get underway. The Auckland team will be losing the services for Martin Guptill, Colin Munro and Lockie Ferguson. England batsman James Vince is set to join the team in place of Guptill while Mitchell McClenaghan takes place of Ferguson. On the other hands, Canterbury reduced their squad from 13 to 12 by leaving out Tim Johnston.

The 9th match of the Super Smash T20 2018-19 will be played between Auckland Aces and Canterbury Kings at the Eden Park Outer Oval in Auckland.

The match starts at 4:00 PM local time (3:00 AM GMT) (8:30 AM IST).

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Eden Park Outer Oval hosted six matches last season producing a different set of scores which can be cut into two halves. The first three matches had scores of 192, 206 and 202 while the last three games had scores of 145, 139 and 163. But one thing that was common throughout the season was five of the six matches were won by the chasing teams.

Power Picks:

Donovan Grobbelaar couldn’t make it to the playing XI in the previous game due to the presence of experienced players. The pace bowling all-rounder is too good to be kept out of the team. Grobbelaar, the brother-in-law of keeper Glenn Phillips, has scored 435 runs across 36 T20 innings and bagged 47 wickets from 53 matches in the Twenty20 format.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

James Vince will be a valuable addition to the Aces who can fill the role of Guptill by playing long. The England batsman has the ability to make most of the field restrictions. The all-rounders Andrew Ellis, Kyle Jamieson and Donovan Grobbelaar all are capable of making it big with both bat and ball. The Canterbury players Ellis and Jamieson could even play an important role with the bat in this game.

Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Glenn Phillips

Batsmen – Mark Chapman, Robert O’Donnell, Chad Bowes, James Vince (C)

All-rounders – Andrew Ellis, Kyle Jamieson, Donovan Grobbelaar (VC)

Bowlers – Ronnie Hira, William Somerville, Henry Shipley

Suggested Playing XI for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Glenn Phillips

Batsmen – Craig Cachopa, Stephen Murdoch, James Vince, Chad Bowes (VC)

All-rounders – Andrew Ellis, Donovan Grobbelaar, Kyle Jamieson (C)

Bowlers – Ronnie Hira, Mitchell McClenaghan, Henry Shipley

Expert Advice:

Glenn Phillips, despite his weak form, makes it to the playing XI due to lack of options in the wicketkeepers’ category. However, being promoted to opening the innings in the absence of Guptill-Munro pair, Phillips could get back to form.

Probable Winners:

Auckland Aces could delay Canterbury Kings’ hopes of opening their points account for a few more days.
