Indian left-hander Suresh Raina survived an accident scare while driving through Etawah in Uttar Pradesh. Raina was on his way to Kanpur from the national capital. He is the captain of the India Blue team in the Duleep Trophy and was on his way to Kanpur for the second match of the day-night first-class championship where he will lead the Blue team against India Red.
He was driving his Range Rover SUV and while the cricketer was near the Friends colony area of Etawah, the incident happened. According to reports, it didn’t involve another car and it was rather the tyre of his own car that burst and caused the accident.
Tyre burst
SportsWallah reported the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Etawah, Rajesh Kumar Singh said that “the cricketer was driving his Range Rover from Delhi to Kanpur when rear tyre busted. The car was not on high speed when the incident took place and Raina remained unhurt. Later, Raina was arranged another car in which he resumed his journey to Kanpur. The Range Rover is presently standing at the incident spot in police custody.”
Fitness troubles
Over the last few months, the left-hander has had a tough time dealing with his fitness and it has proved to be a major hurdle in his bid to make a comeback in the Indian team. Twice in the last two months, the national selectors overlooked India’s limited-overs specialist; first for the 5-match ODI and one-off T20I against Sri Lanka and now, very recently for the first three ODIs of the home series against the touring Australian team.
Sachin’s advice
He has been sweating it out in the nets and has been featuring in domestic matches, almost everything that has come his way. Raina also had an interaction with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, detailing it, he said, “Sachin Tendulkar told me very nice thing other day, sab achha hai, you don’t need to prove anyone. You have done so much, you just need enjoy your cricket. I always made with high intensity. I know my chance will come.”
