Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina is pretty disappointed with the fact that former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been removed as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiant. Before the start of IPL 10, Pune owner Sanjiv Goenka announced the removal of Dhoni and the appointment of Aussie captain Steve Smith as the leader of the pack.

Sanjiv Goenka had also tweeted after Pune’s victory against the Mumbai Indians that Steve Smith showed that who is the real boss of the jungle after his brilliant match-winning against in the opening encounter. Dhoni has been India’s most successful captain across all 3 formats and has also led Chennai Super Kings to two IPL and two Champions League title over the last 9 years.

”I was disappointed. He has done so well for the country as well as for the IPL teams. He should be respected every time. It’s about not me saying, it’s the world saying,” Raina was quoted as saying by PTI during an exclusive interview.

”Having shared the dressing room with him (for India and CSK), you know what goes through when one faces hardships. He (Dhoni) should be respected as a player. In any profession, be it as a player or a journalist, you need to be respected. Even a player, however short his career span may be, wants to earn respect,” he further added.

Dhoni hasn’t been in the best of form of late which has raised criticism from every quarter but given his credentials, it’s just a matter of time before Dhoni gets back into his groove. The performance of IPL might not be the ideal platform to judge his performance as he looked in good touch during the limited overs series against England a couple of months back.

It was before the start of the limited-overs series against England that Dhoni stepped down from the national captaincy with immediate effect handing over the reign to Virat Kohli. It was under Kohli’s captaincy that India won both the ODI and T20 series by a 2-1 margin.
