India’s swashbuckling batsman Suresh Raina played an instrumental role for the Indian cricket team throughout his glorious international career and had a lot of memorable moments to cherish for life. Known for his aggressive batting approach and fielding skills, Raina was the first Indian batsman to hit a century in all three formats of international cricket.

He was a vital part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad and went on to play 19 Tests and 226 ODIs for the Men in Blue amassing 768 and 5615 runs respectively. In ODIs, Raina gathered 5 tons and 36 half-centuries while he has only 1 ton to his name in the purest format. As far as T20Is are concerned, Suresh Raina represented India in 78 matches and scored 1605 runs including a century.

Raina hails from Uttar Pradesh and thus the authorities are planning to felicitate the prolific batsman for his golden cricket career by naming a pavilion of the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh after him. A proposal regarding the same has been sent to the UP government, who owns the stadium and the concerned authorities are waiting for the approval to start the procedure according to News18.

Suresh Raina to return back to competitive cricket in January

The 34-year-old had announced his retirement from the gentleman’s game on August 15, 2020 along with the former Indian captain MS Dhoni. The 34-year-old had last donned the Indian jersey in 2018 and there were almost negligible chances of him making a comeback in the game for the Men in Blue.

The batsman was last seen playing for Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL 2019. He was supposed to grace the field in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Super Kings but had pulled out his name from the tournament citing personal reasons which had resulted in a controversy.

However, Suresh Raina is now all set to return back to competitive cricket as he will be representing Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2020/21. A few days back, Raina confirmed that he would be leading UP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January 2021 and also confirmed his presence in the 2021 edition of the T20 Championship.
