Suved Parkar becomes only the second Mumbai player to score a double century on Ranji Trophy debut

Mumbai batter Suved Parkar has scored a double century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Uttarakhand in the ongoing quarterfinal clash on June 7 (Tuesday). He was drafted into the starting XI in place of injured veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane and went on to score a century on day one. Former Mumbai skippers Sachin Tendulkar, Ajinkya Rahane, and the current skipper Prithvi Shaw are a few big names to score centuries on debut for Mumbai. The 21-year-old right-handed batter continued to impress on day two and scored a double century in the second session. He became only the second Mumbai player to achieve this feat after current coach Amol Muzumdar. Mumbai stalwart Muzumdar scored an unbeaten 260 runs against Haryana back in the 1993-94 season. Bihar’s Sakibul Gani holds the record for the highest first-class score on debut amassing 341 runs against Mizoram earlier this year. Mumbai declares on 647/8 after Suved Parkar’s run out The Mumbai side is looking strong to reach the semifinals after some excellent innings by young batters Suved Parkar, Sarfaraz Khan, and Armaan Jaffer. Suved Parkar played second fiddle to in-form domestic star Sarfaraz Khan and both the players remained unbeaten at the end of day one. Khan accelerated his innings on the second day and scored a total of 153 runs at an impressive strike rate of 74.63. He was bowled out by Mayank Mishra but Mumbai all-rounder Shams Mulani stitched a good partnership with Parkar for the sixth wicket. Parkar also played some big shots in the second session to accelerate the team’s total score and reached the double hundred on his 375th ball. He was unfortunate to get run out on 252 runs, just eight runs shy of Amol Muzumdar’s debut record. Mumbai’s skipper Prithvi Shaw declared the innings after Parkar’s dismissal with 647 runs on the scoreboard. Parkar received a big applause from his teammates and coach Amol Muzumdar for his double century. Parkar has featured for India U19 as well but failed to make a big impact. But his domestic performances with Mumbai U-14, U-16, and U19 helped him earn the Ranji Trophy debut. He is likely to keep his place in the starting XI for the possible semifinal clash even if Ajinkya Rahane returns from his injury on time.
