The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy saw a lot of twists and turns on day 6 and it seems like a few teams have already booked their slots for the knockouts. After a controversial defeat on Day 5, Hyderabad succumbed to Andhra on day 6, making it two defeats in a row. Karun Nair registered the second hundred in this year’s edition after Kedar Devdhar, gifting a huge win against Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu has been in scintillating touch this season, but their winning run came to an end on Friday. Karnataka posted a huge total on the back of a big century from Karun Nair. He stroked a majestic 111 off 52 balls, which included 8 fours and 8 sixes. Praveen Dubey registered figures of 4/19 which helped them bowl Tamil Nadu out for a paltry 101. It was a huge 78 runs for their side, which takes them to the top of the South Zone table.

Vidarbha continued their winning run with a close-fought victory against Madhya Pradesh. Batting first, they scored 156 runs for the loss of five scalps banking on Apoorv Wankhade’s 23-ball 43. Ganesh Satish and Ravi Jangid chipped in with a couple of cameos. In reply, Madhya Pradesh came agonizingly close. Sohraab Dhaliwal’s 45 and Anshul Tripathi’s 39 helped them condense the total, but fell 7 short of it.

Big wins for Kerala and Delhi

Pawan Negi’s spectacular spell of 3/27 helped Delhi restrict Jammu and Kashmir to 100/9 in their 20 overs. Barring Parvez Rasool, no one showed enough spirit in the side to tackle Delhi’s strong bowling lineup. In reply, Rishabh Pant smashed a half-century off 33 balls and Sarthak Ranjan, who opened in place of Gambhir, chipped in with a cameo. They chased the total in 11.3 overs, losing just two wickets.

Kerala had some problems in the first few games, but they are on the right track now. After restricting Kerala to 138/8 in their 20 overs, they chased the total down comprehensively with 25 balls to spare. Sanju Samson scored a 44-ball 65 and got good support from Vishnu Vinod and Arun Karthik on his way.

Haryana stunned its archrival Punjab up in the North Zone. Yuvraj Singh registered a low score and Punjab scored 134 runs batting first. Mandeep Singh was the highest-scorer in the innings, with an 18-ball 30. Harshal Patel and Rahul Tewatia danced their way towards the small target and chased it down with 13 balls remaining.

A big disappointment for Hyderabad as they registered two defeats in two days. They posted just 129 runs batting first, thanks to some late blitz from Bavanaka Sandeep. Ricky Bhui played a match-winning knock of 73 in 58 balls, which never allowed Hyderabad to comeback in the game. They chased the total down in 18.2 overs. Mohammed Siraj shined for Hyderabad, by registering figures of 3/26.
