Ranji Champions Vidarbha finally found some speed-breakers to their incredible run on the 7th day of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Saturday. It was a day of low-scoring one-sided games between the sides and a few of them have potentially booked their berths in the knockouts.

Himachal Pradesh won its first two games convincingly, but Services halted their momentum. Batting first, Himachal could only score 119 runs losing 8 wickets. Diwesh Pathania returned with the best figures of 3/16 for Services. Services chased the title down in 18.1 overs without much fuss and this opened up the North Zone group big time.

Suresh Raina’s Uttar Pradesh finally registered their first win of the tournament. Batting first, their opponents Railways posted 132 runs losing 8 wickets. Ankit Rajpoot returned with figures of 3/30 for UP. Pivotal contributions from Shivam Chaudhary, Suresh Raina, and Rinku Singh killed the game in 18 overs as Uttar Pradesh registered a very important 8-wicket win.

Ranji Champions stunned by Rajasthan

Vidarbha displayed an outstanding amount of courage and perseverance in recent weeks, but their incredible run got jolted on Saturday. Batting first, Vidarbha could post only 131 runs losing 8 wickets. Khaleed Ahmed bowled outstandingly for Rajasthan and registered figures of 2/19 in four overs. In reply, Aditya Garhwal scored a half-century, which propelled Rajasthan to a 6-wicket victory.

Gujarat registered a comprehensive victory over neighbors Saurashtra. Batting first, Saurashtra got bowled out for 133 runs in 19.2 overs, with Vishvaraj Jadeja being the top-scorer (48 of 32 balls). Priyank Panchal scored a breathtaking 76 off 54 balls, which helped Gujarat chase the total down in 18.1 overs. It was Gujarat’s first win of the campaign.

Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir’s North Zone game proved to be a one-sided game as well. Haryana got bowled out for a paltry 116 runs batting first. Umar Nazir registered phenomenal figures of 3/16 in his four overs, whilst Manik Gupta picked a 3-fer as well. Jatin Wadhawan fought a lone battle with the bat as his 70 off 61 balls helped J&K chase the total in 18.4 overs.

The match of the day was played between Baroda and Maharashtra. Maharashtra posted a more than decent 178 runs on the board, banking on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fifty. Atit Sheth continued his wonderful run with the ball, registering figures of 3/21. Deepak Hooda’s 57 in 34 balls and Vishnu Solanki’s breathtaking cameo helped Baroda chase the total down. Domnic Muthuswami’s 3/24 effort went in vain, but Baroda deserved to take the honors.
