After all the hard work they’ve done in the tournament, Baroda find themselves out of contention for a spot in the semifinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Karnataka, who already qualified for the final four, lost to Mumbai and the latter now are in a must-win situation to go above Tamil Nadu and snatch the second spot.

Baroda were in a must-win situation against Haryana in the Group A fixture and didn’t put up a decent score batting first. Yusuf Pathan‘s exploits towards the end helped them get to a respectable 138 runs on the board. Chaitanya Bishnoi and Shivam Chauhan registered half-centuries, as Haryana chased the total down in 17.3 overs. Haryana confirmed their berth in the semis with this win.

With Rajasthan and Delhi competing in the final group game, it is certain that one of the teams will go above Baroda courtesy their poor net run-rate. The only hope for them at this juncture is an intervention by the rain gods, which could protect their day.

Tamil Nadu and Punjab play out a low-scoring thriller

Sai Kishore and M Siddharth continued their amazing wicket-taking spree as Tamil Nadu bundled Punjab out for just 94 runs. Mayank Markande saved the side with a crucial 34 towards the end, or else the score would’ve been much worse. Washinton Sundar held his nerve brilliantly against a quality bowling attack as Tamil Nadu got over the line by a whisker, with three balls remaining.

Mumbai kept their hopes of qualifying for the semifinals alive with a morale-boosting win against Karnataka. Courtesy half-centuries from Devdutt Padikkal and Rohan Kadam, Karnataka scored 171 runs batting first. Suryakumar Yadav led from the front with brilliance as his 53-ball 84 helped the side chase this total down with an over to spare.
