Sylhet International Stadium is all set to host three matches in the tri-series between Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The tournament including these three countries is scheduled to be played in January next year. The stadium hosted the first phase of the ongoing season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The response from the crowd has been ecstatic and almost all the matches have been sold-out so far. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) seems to be impressed with the city and have decided to award international matches to the Stadium.

Sylhet Sixers, one of the teams in BPL, has started the tournament in grand fashion and has won three games out of the four they have played. They hosted the first eight matches of this season and took complete advantage of their home conditions. Nasir Hossain, the skipper of the team has led the side admirably well. He would look to rode on the early advantage and continue the momentum in the second phase as well which is set to be played from Saturday in Dhaka at Shere Bangla National Stadium.

BCB director confirmed the news

The director of BCB confirmed the news of Sylhet International Stadium hosting the international games in January according to bdcrictime. He told the reporters that the matches will be played on January 15,17 and 19. As per the fixtures confirmed, Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka on 15th, Sri Lanka will face Zimbabwe on 17th and again the hosts will lock horns with Zimbabwe on 19th. Chittagong and Dhaka are most likely to host other remaining matches of the tri-series.

After the conclusion of tri-series, the Tigers will host Sri Lanka for a Test series. BCB has finalised the fixtures for both the series but the official announcement is yet to be made regarding the same. The Stadium in Sylhet is arguably one of the most beautiful grounds in the country right now and it is only a matter of time when the matches would be hosted by the ground regularly.
