After a jaw-dropping opening day owing to a couple of closely-fought encounters, the second edition of the T10 League is set to witness as many as three matches at Sharjah Cricket Ground. Bengal Tigers, captained by Windies cricketer Sunil Narine and the Northern Warriors, led by another Windies cricketer Darren Sammy, are set to lock horns in the day’s first match.
The Tigers had an indifferent season last time around. They finished fourth in the points table of the first round and progressed to the second stage. However, the team finished last in Group A with one win from the two matches. Subsequently, they crashed out. The Warriors, on the contrary, would be looking to make an impressive start to their maiden campaign of the event.
Pitch
The pitch at the venue is expected to be helpful for batting and the batters can make full use of the friendly conditions. Being an afternoon match, the pitch may assist the spinners to some extent, but the track won’t change much bearing in mind the duration of the encounter.
Bengal Tigers
Sunil Narine and Jason Roy are likely to open the batting with Englishmen Riki Wessels and Sam Billings to follow. Wessels is also set to don the keeper’s gloves. The likes of Mohammad Nabi and Sherfane Rutherford may come in at five and six respectively. Kevon Cooper adds depth to the batting lineup. Mujeeb and Nabi will handle the spin department with Morkel, Zaheer and Ali Khan being the pacers.
Predicted XI
Sunil Narine (C), Jason Roy, Riki Wessels (wk), Sam Billings, Mohammad Nabi, Sherfane Rutherford, Kevon Cooper, Morne Morkel, Zaheer Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Ali Khan
Northern Warriors
The Windies duo- Dwayne Smith and Nicholas Pooran are the openers. Then follows the three all-rounders- Ravi Bopara, Rovman Powell and Andre Russell. Darren Sammy is no mug with the bat either. The bowling lineup is a formidable one as it has Khary Pierre and Chris Green as the spinners with left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz, Proteas pacer Hardus Viljoen and Englishman Harry Gurney in their ranks.
