Shane Watson who had a memorable outing with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) made it a memorable one with a tournament winning century in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The veteran all-rounder had struggled with injuries during the course of the season but fought back to be one of the match-winners in the CSK team. His exploits have also earned him the status of the icon player in Karachians team for the upcoming T10 league that will be played in the UAE in December this year.

Watson was extremely happy to be able to perform at par with the needs of the format and expectations of the team. He expressed his gratitude to be able to play the T20 leagues around the world and said that he feels incredibly fortunate to have been signed up for the T10 tournament.

T10 league

“I am very, very grateful to be able to play in the T20 tournaments and incredibly fortunate for an opportunity to play in a T10 tournament and for a franchise like Karachians,” said Watson at a news conference in Dubai, quoted Sports360.

“The 10 overs definitely suit my body [these days] more than Test cricket or four day cricket. Like it was when I first started playing Twenty20 cricket in 2004-2005. It’s a different dynamic to what you think it’s going to be,” he added.

The ball-tampering saga

While talking about the biggest controversy that hit Australian cricket, the ball-tampering saga, he was sympathetic towards the trio. Three Aussie players, skipper Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were found guilty of tampering with the ball in the Cape Town Test against South Africa. They were subsequently handed over heavy sanctions by Cricket Australia. Watson said that the sanctions imposed on all the three players were ‘extreme’.

“It is an extreme penalty for what they did compared to the bans that have happened and the reprimands that have happened in the past,” Watson was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“They have paid a heavy price, there is no question, and when they come back they will be doing everything they can to try and repay people for the mistakes they made,” he said.
