The Vitality T20 Blast in the past few days has been seeing games being shortened due to rain interruptions. It was no different on the nineteenth day of the action. On this day, a North group game between Yorkshire and Derbyshire was played. This game was reduced to 17 overs per side and ended out to be a completely one-sided affair.

With a massive win in this game, Derbyshire improved upon their net run rate. Their net run rate is now positive and they are fifth on the points table now. On the other hand, Yorkshire’s net run rate took a dip and are placed sixth on the points table. Here is a look at how things proceeded in this game:

Yorkshire vs Derbyshire – North Group

In their home game, Yorkshire won the toss and opted to field first. However, Derbyshire had to deal with a big blow right on the first ball of the day. Their opener Billy Godleman was dismissed by David Willey for a duck. But, Callum MacLeod and Wahab Riaz played aggressive cricket in the powerplay. The team scored 61 runs in the powerplay. Riaz smashed 42 off 30 balls. But, the best innings came from the bat of Wayne Madsen who was brutal on the day. He scored 66 off just 28 balls. Derbyshire posted 179 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 17 overs. Jordan Thompson picked 3 wickets in the innings.

But, the chase wasn’t as entertaining as the first innings. The Yorkshire batsmen after having got to some good starts failed to capitalize. They tried to go hard after the bowlers and also the pressure of the chase was clearly seen. David Willey with 24 runs off 22 balls was the highest run scorer of the innings. Moreover, Kane Williamson failed in this game as well. He got out after scoring 4 runs. Hence, the team was all-out for 102 runs in just 14 overs. Also, Lokie Ferguson, Alex Hughes, and Hardus Viljoen picked 3 wickets each in the innings.

Brief Scores:

DERBY: 179/7 in 17 overs (Wayne Madsen 66, Wahab Riaz 42, Jordan Thompson 3/23)

YORKS: 102/10 in 14 overs (David Willey 24, Adam Lyth 21, Alex Hughes 3/12)
