T20 World Cup 2021: Dinesh Karthik predicts finalists of the tournament

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is set to held in Oman and the UAE from October 17. The build-up to the showpiece event reached its peak when ICC announced the schedule and fixtures for the global event with India and Pakistan pitted in the same group.

India were supposedly set to host the marquee event, but to the pandemic situation, Oman and UAE will now get to co-host the tournament. Already, experts and critics have begun to pick their favorites for the global event with Brad Hogg picking India and England and Herschelle Gibbs picking Pakistan, England, and India as the favorites to win the T20 World Cup.

Jumping into the bandwagon, Dinesh Karthik, Isa Guha, and Darren Sammy were seen breaking down the fixtures and picking their picks. The trio discussed the matches and the various top teams. West Indies are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup and naturally, Darren Sammy, the captain during their 2016 triumph, has gone with his team to win a treble in the 2021 edition.

Guha came to a direct point and asked Karthik and Sammy to pick one winner for the T20 World Cup. While the former West Indies all-rounder was seen avoiding the question and was more interested in the player of the tournament, Guha made sure he answers. “I am more interested in who is going to be the player of the tournament. Someone like Russell who bowls and bats and comes in at crucial times,” said Sammy.

When Guha asked Sammy to pick the winner, he said, “It’s a no-brainer for me, West Indies.” Meanwhile, Karthik wants India and West Indies final.

“I would love to see India and West indies final. I think my second favorite team after India would definitely be West Indies, only for the way they play cricket. I think this format, they love it, it brings out their best in them and I would love to see West Indies in the final. Whether I want them to win it that will depend on the opponent that day,” Karthik said.
