The England cricket team decimated the Bangladesh side in the 20th Match of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. Chasing a mediocre target of 125 set by the Bangladesh side, the Eoin Morgan-led outfit coasted past the finish line with 8 wickets and as many as 35 balls to spare.

Opener Jason Roy blazed his way to 38-ball 61 at the top of the order. The England opener struck 5 fours and 3 sixes in his enterprising knock, as the Bangladesh bowlers were rendered helpless. After the departure of Roy, Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow made sure that England chased down the target with ease.

While Malan scored a sedate 28* off 25 deliveries, Bairstow remained unbeaten on 8. Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed scalped one wicket each for the Bangladesh side with the ball in hand.

Bangladesh post 124/9 on the board

The Bangladesh side produced a very ordinary performance with the bat. Wielding the willow first, the Bangladesh outfit could only manage to score 124/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 29, none of the other Bangladesh batsmen could even cross the 20-run mark.

Skipper Mahmudullah and Nasum Ahmed scored 19 runs each as well. In the bowling department, Tymal Mills was the pick of the bowlers for the England side. The left-arm pacer scalped 3 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled, and gave away 27 runs. Apart from Mills, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone also picked up 2 wickets apiece.

Winning skipper Eoin Morgan said:

The bowlers have been very disciplined and have adapted well. The fielding has been good as well and has backed the bowling as well. It is a huge compliment the way our white-ball cricket has come up. We have had players fighting for places. It is crucial for Roy and Dawid to get some time on the wicket. It is great to see him like this.

Losing skipper Mahmudullah said:

We were very disappointed the way we batted. We didn’t start well and we didn’t get any partnerships. If we get a good start, we can capitalize. It gets difficult on a wicket like this if we don’t get a good start. We have more skilful hitters than power-hitters. I think we need to reassess a few things in batting.

Player of the Match Jason Roy said:

Very special match for us. Had to back up our last performance against WI and we came out firing with the ball. Nice to get into more of a routine now in the last couple of years (more T20 cricket being played). It’s definitely a case of keeping wickets in hand and powering through in the back end of our innings. Working very hard on it in the last few years (against spin). It’s a part of my game that’s improved a lot.
