Pakistan are going from strength to strength in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. The Babar Azam-led unit, on Tuesday, defeated Namibia by 45 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. They are sitting at the top of the points table in Group 2. As far as the Namibia team is concerned, they have now lost back-to-back games and need a win to bring their campaign back on track.

Rizwan, Babar make hay

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan made a steady start as they scored only 59 runs in their first 10 overs. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were a tad circumspect to start with. But once they got their eyes in, they stepped on the gas. In their last 10 overs, the Men in Green hammered 130 runs. Babar started the acceleration as he got to his half-century off 39 balls.

Babar went on to score a 49-ball 70 with seven fours before the wily David Wiese accounted for his wicket. Fakhar Zaman couldn’t last long as he became Jan Frylinck’s maiden victim. Mohamamd Hafeez came out with intent made a quickfire 16-ball 32, laced with five fours. Rizwan, in the meantime, played until the very end and stayed not out on 79 off 50 with eight fours and four sixes.

Namibia go down fighting

Namibia lost the early wicket of Michael van Lingen to start their run-chase. Hasan Ali castled the opener to strike first blood. Stephan Baard and Craig Williams put on 47 runs for the second wicket to steady the ship for Namibia. Baard, who made a comeback into the eleven, scored a run-a-ball 29 before he was run out. Williams, at the other end, looked to be in pretty good rhythm with the bat.

He scored 40 with five fours and a six after which Shadab Khan got rid of him in the 14th over. Prior to that, Imad Wasim showed Gerhard Erasmus the way to the pavilion. Haris Rauf pinned JJ Smit to pick up his first wicket. David Wiese threw his bat around to score 43 off 30 with three fours and two six. But his efforts were never going to be enough for Namibia to reach close to Pakistan’s score.
