South Africa and England were involved in a thrilling encounter in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Saturday, November 6. The game at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium turned out to be a high-scoring affair. The Proteas eventually won the game by 10 runs, but couldn’t qualify for the semis. Temba Bavuma and Co. ended with eight points, but England and Australia left them behind on net run rate.

Van der Dussen, Markram make hay

South Africa had a great time with the bat after being put in to bat first. They lost Reeza Hendricks early to Moeen Ali, but stepped on the accelerator from there on. Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen put on 71 runs for the second wicket to inject impetus into the innings. De Kock scored 34 runs off 27 balls with four fours before leg-spinner Adil Rashid accounted for his wicket.

From there on, van der Dussen and Aiden Markram took charge with the bat. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 103-run stand for the second wicket off 52 balls. Markram carried on with his good form, scoring 52 with two fours and four sixes. Van der Dussen, at the other end, looked ominous as he stayed unbeaten on a 60-ball 94, taking the Proteas to 189 for two in 20 overs.

Rabada shows his class

Jason Roy and Jos Buttler started England’s run-chase on a blistering note. However, the latter had to retire hurt on 20 after facing issues with his left leg/hamstring. Soon after, Buttler got out to pacer Anrich Nortje. Moeen Ali looked promising, having scored 37 runs off 27 balls with three fours and two sixes. However, he fell prey to Tabraiz Shamsi, who also got the wicket of Jonny Bairstow.

Dawid Malan couldn’t quite get going as his 33 came at a strike rate of 126.92. But Liam Livingstone smashed Kagiso Rabada for three sixes to bring excitement back into the game. Thereafter, Kagiso Rabada came to the party and denied England a win. The pacer became the third bowler after Ireland’s Curtis Campher and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga to pick a hat-trick in the mega event.
