The Indian side is currently involved in its 3rd Super 12 encounter of the 2021 T20 World Cup against the Afghanistan side. And, several calculations will be going on in both the Indian as well as the Afghanistan camps regarding the qualification scenarios for both sides.
Batting first, the Indian side posted a gargantuan total of 210/2 on the board. The Indian batsmen absolutely decimated the Afghanistan bowlers with the willow in hand. The Indian openers, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma put on a sensational partnership of 140 runs for the opening wicket off just 14.4 overs to lay the foundation for a massive total.
After that, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant applied the finish touches to propel India past the 200-run mark. So, what are the qualification scenarios for both India and Afghanistan?
Qualification scenarios for India and Afghanistan
Now, if Afghanistan score 120, and India beat their opponents by 90 runs, it would mean that India’s Net Run Rate (NRR) will be +0.50, while Afghanistan’s NRR will be +1.20. If the Mohammad Nabi-led outfit manages to post 140, then India’s NRR will come down to +0.1, while Afghanistan’s will move to +1.40.
If the Afghanistan side makes a total of 160, then India’s NRR will go into negative (-0.20), while Afghanistan’s NRR will shoot up to +1.70. And finally, if Afghanistan manages to score 180, then Virat Kohli and his men will have an NRR of -0.60, while Afghanistan will have an NRR of close to 2 (NRR +1.90).

India are currently placed at the 5th spot in the points table in Group 2 and are yet to post a win in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. The ‘Men in Blue’ have lost both matches that they have played in the tournament so far.
On the other hand, the Afghanistan outfit is stationed at the 2nd place in the points table, after emerging triumphant in 2 out of their 3 matches in the Super 12 stages.
