T20 World Cup 2022: Suryakumar Yadav plays jaw-dropping shot with perfection

Suryakumar Yadav has been batting like a ‘man on mission’ and he has looked unstoppable so far in the T20 World Cup 2022. The right-hander has had a phenomenal year in international cricket and has scored the most T20I runs in 2022. He had already notched up India’s fastest half-century in the tournament this year and added another brilliant knock to his list in the game against Zimbabwe.  

Coming in at 87 for 2 in the 12th over, Suryakumar was up and running straight away with some prolific stroke-making of the highest order. He capitalised on the back end of the innings when the bowlers were under pressure and took India to 186 for 5 in their 20 overs. The 32-year-old hit a lot of 360-degree shots and the final shot to end the Indian innings captured a lot of attention.  

Suryakumar played a sweep shot earlier in the 20th over off Richard Ngarava which went for a big six in the fine leg area and the Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine made an adjustment in the field by having a deep square leg finer for the shot. While most batters would have preferred not to go for the same shot again, Suryakumar played a similar kind of paddle sweep much finer and completed India’s innings with another maximum.  

The difficulty of the shot was quite high and Ngarava had bowled the delivery on the fifth stump on the off side to follow the batter. Despite not having much room to play, Suryakumar kept his cool and played the shot over the short fine leg fielder. It was a shot of the highest class from Suryakumar and showed the kind of form he is in.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar’s 61 off 27 balls included four sixes and six fours in his innings and he has now moved onto the third position on the top run-getter list of the tournament with 225 runs.
