With India’s sportspersons scaling new heights on each occasion, the country’s much-reputed film industry has also leaned towards them to make the most out of their feats. Be it the men or women, India’s sporting fraternity is busy making rich exploits and the tinsel town has found a favourite engagement in making biopics on them.

Women sportspersons are also on a roll, starting from boxer Mary Kom. And if everything falls in place, the cine audience might soon see a biopic on India’s premier batter Mithali Raj with Taapsee Pannu portraying her role. The 32-year-old actress is no stranger to sports and films on them. A regular participant in sporting activities in her school days, she has already played a hockey player and a shooter on screen.

Her partner is a badminton player and she also bought a team in the Premier Badminton League. And speaking to Hindustan Times in an interview, Taapsee Pannu confirmed that she is in talks over a film on Mithali though added that it’s too early to say anything about it. She even conceded that she has been approached numerous times for doing films on sports for she personally is interested in them.

“I’d say that I’d love to be part of the Mithali film, but it’s too early right now to say it’s happening. I’m in talks for it. I’m doing another sports film, which will be announced soon,” she said. However, Taapsee Pannu is overwhelmed of the fact that she has got so many offers on sports films.

Taapsee inundated with offers on sport films

“Honestly, I’ve stopped counting the number of sports films that have come to me! Maybe it’s because people by now are aware of the kind of love I have for sports. Also, the fact that I’m very inquisitive to learn sports, makers know I’ll put in my 100 percent to learn.

But, I’ve chosen a few out of all those. Yes, I’m inclined towards the theme, but my film choices will be more basis what the story is. I probably admire and follow so many sports stars, but not everybody has a story worth making into a movie. It’s a journey probably worth admiring,” the Mission Mangal actor was quoted as saying.

To speak about other actors playing women sportspersons’ roles, while Priyanka Chopra has played Mary Kom on-screen, Parineeti Chopra is portraying shuttler Saina Nehwal in an upcoming biopic.
