While Tabraiz Shamsi would be cooling his heels in anticipation of the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka at Port Elizabeth, his eyes were well and truly glued to the television set when Karun Nair went about his innings of 303. Day 4 of the final Test match between India and England which saw the 25-year old convert his maiden Test ton into a triple-century.

Nair became the only Indian batsman to do so as Vinod Kambli and Dileep Sardesai are the only others with doubles to their names. Importantly, Nair has also made an important contribution with the bat, something that sees him cement a place in the squad at the very least. This means that Ajinkya Rahane, whom Nair replaced, will have to work his way back into the squad.

Tabraiz Shamsi went on to tweet: “Sorry mom I didn’t go and buy the milk yet…. was glued to the screen watching Karun Nair get to his 300 #IndiaVSEng#TestCricket#Special” While many certainly appreciated the gesture, the chinaman for the Royal Challengers Bangalore also went on to write a follow-up tweet lauding his RCB skipper Virat Kohli for allowing Nair to complete his century.

Not only cricketers but the nation’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also applauded for Nair’s historic knock and tweeted, “Congratulations on the historic triple century @karun126! We all are delighted & proud of your remarkable feat.”

Shamsi’s follow-up tweet read: “Also massive kudos to @imVkohli for allowing Karun Nair to chase that special triple century 2 mentally grow him as a player!#GunLeader.”

Many came out in their congratulations for Karun Nair as he went on to smash his maiden Test match ton. Even Anil Kumble, the man who had seen him blossom into the player that he is at the moment was impressed and satisfied having given him many a chance to express himself.
