Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has jumped six places in the latest ICC rankings and has achieved career best 14th rank in Test. He looked in ominous touch in the first Test match against Australia as the hosts triumphed by 20 runs to register their first ever win over Aussies.
The aggressive opener was the only batsman to score half centuries in both the innings of the match as he scored 78 in the first innings followed by 71 in the second. He has been a vital cog of the Bangladesh line up for a long time now and has played memorable innings for his country. The southpaw hoped to score many more runs for his nation and dreamed of becoming the No. 1 batsman in the world.
I wanted to score centuries: Tamim
The 28-year-old however, was disappointed for not scoring a century in any of the innings. However, he also accepted that he received unplayable deliveries on both the occasions. “Had I scored a century in one of the two innings, I might have entered into the top ten list. It’s a big thing to be among the top 10. Also, it’s respectful for the country’s cricket as well,” Tamim said on Wednesday.
“I don’t think anyone can have a question on my dismissal as it was unplayable and out of my control,” he believed. He also expressed his belief to become the top batsman in the world and make his country proud. “Obviously I do want to be among the top ten batsmen, even my dream is even bigger. Why not number one? We play in order to be the best,” the left hander concluded.
The second and final Test match of the series will be played in Chittagong from 4th September. Tamim Iqbal must be eyeing a huge score on his home ground and help his team whitewash the Smith-led Australia.
