When someone has a unique birth date of 12/12, it certainly suits the stature of a unique man named Rajinikanth, the Tamil superstar who even at 68 is as popular a ‘superman’ on screen. On Wednesday, wishes poured in for the man from Chennai whose latest film ‘2.0’ is running successfully all over. In between the birthday wishes and the revelry over the film by the veteran actor’s countless number of fans, he had a small conversation with former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and it set social media abuzz in no time.

Both Tendulkar and Rajinikanth have Maharashtra connection

Tendulkar wished Thalaiva, as Rajinikanth is popularly known as, on his birthday on Twitter and the latter replied to the legendary cricketer, calling him his “dearest”. While the former cricketer’s tweet received over 42,000 likes and over 6,300 retweets, Rajinikanth’s reply was liked almost 12,000 times and retweeted almost 1,900 times. It may be mentioned here that predecessors of Rajinikanth, originally called Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, belonged to Maharashtra which is also the home state of Tendulkar.

Last year, Rajinikanth confirmed his entry into politics but he is yet to launch his political party though his regional rival Kamal Haasan set up his own outfit called Makkal Needhi Maiam in February this year. Though many suspected that Rajinikanth could make his political entry with the support of the ruling BJP at the Centre, his remark in the wake of the saffron party’s loss in three Hindi heartland states in the latest elections that it has “lost influence” will make many think afresh.

Tendulkar, 45, on the other hand, is having a more nostalgic time over India’s recent victory over Australia in the first Test match in Adelaide by 31 runs. It was also in 2003 that India had won at this ground under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly to take a 1-0 lead over the Aussies in a four-game series though that eventually ended 1-1. Tendulkar, who was a key member of the 2003 team to Australia, also tweeted about his nostalgic feeling to see India win in Adelaide.
