The latest International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting has opened a lot of new avenues and prospects for a complete turnaround in the way the two older formats Test and one-day internationals (ODIs) are played. Reports suggest that at the Chief Executives committee meeting a consensus was arrived at the idea of a Test league to be played in each two-year period, and an extension of teams in the ODIs opening it up to 13 teams by 2019.

An official confirmation is not expected until the next meeting of the ICC in April. But the developments to this point suggest that a majority of the members who are present at the meeting in Dubai agreed that this is the best foot forward for the development and further expansion of game while ensuring Test cricket holds its prime status.

In the Test league, the nine Test playing nations will have Zimbabwe and two other teams for competition. And two of the top Associate teams Ireland and Afghanistan have the best chance of catching up on slots.

The plan also includes getting in line a few more competitive bilateral series’ organized on the lines of the Ashes to make things more intense and that definitely will involve the Indian team that is a major magnet in the cricketing circuit.
