The Father-Son duo; 10 Cricketers and their Sons: Cricket has always been a saga involving father and son, the game of generations has been played by many father-son duos, some being over-shadowed by their seniors and others proving their mettle. These famous cricketers of their time have made sure to pass on their skill and love of the game to the future generation. Let’s dig into the past and look at The Father Son duo; 10 Cricketers and their Sons: 1. The Nawabs Of Pataudi: Iftikhar Ali (1910 – 1952), Nawab of Pataudi. (Photo by Fox Photos/Getty Images) The senior Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi had played a total of 6 Test matches and scored a century in his debut match for India. Senior Pataudi is also the only player to have played for both India and England. Like father like son Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi has also been a revelation on the field. Mansur followed his father’s footstep, he became India’s youngest Test captain, despite his impaired vision Tiger Pataudi went on to be a star for Indian cricket. 2. Lala and Mohinder Amarnath: Mohinder Amarnath was a fighter to the core. Lala had two sons named Surinder and Mohinder Amarnath, Surinder and Lala are the only father-son duo in the history of cricket to score a Test Century in their debut matches. The real successor of Lala’s fame was his younger son Mohinder Amarnath who went on to play a crucial role for India in the World cup 1983. Mohinder’s all-round abilities helped him win the man of the match in both the semi-final and final of WC 1983. 3. Lebrun and Learie Constantine: In the age of slaves this Black West-Indian turned the tides for the island cricketers, Lebrun Constantine became the first West Indian to score a century on English Soil. Lebrun fought against all odds and mended things in his favour, changing the fate of West Indies cricket. But wait his legacy didn’t end there as his son Learie Constantine took it ahead, he was the first great cricketer in the history of Caribbean cricket. Learie took a journey from slavery to Knighthood, as he went on to become a knight. 4. Colin and Chris Cowdrey: Colin Cowdrey. Colin Cowdrey was the first player to play 100 or more Test matches, on the other hand, Chris made his debut against India, Chris took his first Test wicket in his first over of the first match on the fourth delivery by dismissing Kapil Dev. 5. Geoff and Shaun and Mitch Marsh: (Photo Source: Getty Images) The Australian opener Geoff Marsh has played a total of 50 matches and also coached Australia to world cup victory. Geoff passed his skill and the honour of playing Test Cricket to both his sons Shaun and Mitch. While Shaun is a naturally aggressive opener younger Mitch is an all-rounder. 6. His father Peter Pollock was a premier fast bowler for the Proteas while his uncle Graeme Pollock was arguably South Africa’ greatest batsman. 7. Chris and Stuart Broad: (Photo Source: PA Photos) Chris is a former England opener, as opening batsman he has played 26 Test matches and scored six centuries, he also had a healthy average of 40 in the ODIs. Chris Broad is the father of famous English fast bowler Stuart Broad. The T20 skipper has been England’s premium bowler for a long time now, like his father Stuart has also made his name at the international level, he holds the record for highest runs by a number nine player in a Test match. 8. Sunil and Rohan Gavaskar: Sunil Gavaskar with his son Rohan Gavaskar.(Photo Source:Google) Sunil Gavaskar is considered to be an all-time best batsmen, he is the first player to score 10,000 Test runs in the history of cricket. His son Rohan Gavaskar has also played for India, he was a rather subdued player and didn’t make as much name as his father did, this father-son duo holds a unique distinction of picking a wicket in the first over of their ODI career. 9. Yograj and Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh has been released by the DD franchise. Yograj Singh had played only one Test and ODI for India, but he made sure that Yuvraj singh will not be any by-passer, Yuvi fulfilled his father’s dream and became the most crucial batsman for India in the limited over format, his heroics in the T20 and ODI World Cup not only got him the man of the tournament awards but also helped India in winning the tournaments. 10. Roger and Stuart Binny: (Photo Source: AFP) One of India’s finest all-rounder, Roger Binny was the highest wicket taker in the 1983 world cup. His son Stuart Binny is currently playing for team India, like his father, Stuart is also an all-rounder. This father-son duo holds the unique record of being a part of a Test winning team at the Lord’s, both Roger and Stuart had identical scores in their first innings, both of them scored 19 runs off 9 deliveries.
