The night of October 15, 2021, was an absolute treat for the fans of Chennai Super Kings as the franchise went on to clinch its fourth title in its ninth final outing. The high-spirited men in yellow didn’t deviate from their ultimate goal under the captaincy of legendary MS Dhoni. However, as CSK ended their season on a high, there were doubts in fans’ minds about the future of MS with the yellow army.

As the IPL 2022 is all set to see a mega auction ahead of it, a lot of teams will get shuffled due to limited retentions. However, in the latest turn of events, a CSK official has confirmed that regardless of the circumstances, the first retention card from CSK will go for their skipper Dhoni. The official added that they still don’t know about the number of retentions going ahead but the ship needs its captain and assured that he will be back next year.

“There will be retention and that is a fact. The number of retentions isn’t something we are aware of yet. But honestly, that is secondary in MS’ case because the first card will be used for him. The ship needs its captain and rest assured he will be back next year,” said CSK official as quoted by Sports Tiger.

Again, I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI- MS Dhoni

As soon as the finale between KKR and CSK ended, MS caught up with Harsha Bhogle for the post-match chat and added that everything depends on BCCI in reference to his plans with CSK. He added that team should be made keeping in mind the next 10 years and the core group shouldn’t suffer because of him. However, he gave a reason to smile for all his fans by concluding, ‘he still hasn’t left his legacy behind.’

“Again, I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in. We have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” said MS Dhoni on his future plans with CSK.
