Oval Invincibles registered their first victory of the 2022 Hundred Men’s tournament after defeating the Welsh Fire by a decent margin of 39 runs. Batter Will Jacks was excellent with the bat as he scored 81 off 45 balls and helped his team to post a good total on the board. He was also adjudged player of the match for his vital contribution with the bat.

Talking about the match, Welsh Fire won the toss and opted to have a field first. The bowling side tasted some early success as Invincibles star batters Jason Roy and Rilee Rossouw were sent back to the pavilion quickly. Skipper Sam Billings also got a start from the bat, but could not manage to convert it to a big score. However, Jacks was batting brilliantly on the other end.

England’s star all-rounder Sam Curran also played well for his 26 runs but got out as soon as he was about to shift gears. As a result, the batting team finished on 158/5 in their allotted 100 deliveries. Off-spinner Ryan Higgins scalped two wickets for his team, while David Payne, George Scrimshaw, and Adam Zampa scalped one wicket each.

Chasing 159 to win, Welsh Fire was given a good start by the openers Joe Clarke and Tom Banton. However, veteran spinner Sunil Narine broke the partnership for his team. Talented batter Ben Duckett came to the crease next, and he started playing his shots before Sam Curran cleaned him up.

Opener Clarke was scalped by Tom Curran with the star-studded middle-order of Welsh Fire, including Ollie Pope, David Miller, and skipper Joshua Cobb falling like a pack of cards. In the end, Welsh Fire could only manage to score 119 runs in their allotted 100 deliveries, with Ryan Higgins and Zampa remaining unbeaten for the batting side.

Talking about Invincibles bowling unit, Narine was the pick of bowlers as he scalped three wickets, Tom Curran got two wickets while his brother Sam Curran scalped one wicket as their team registered a vital victory to kick-start their campaign.
