'The result would be fair in that case' - Inzamam-ul-Haq offers an interesting solution for WTC Final venue

The dust has settled down on New Zealand’s victory over the Virat Kohli-led Indian side in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC). In this mega clash, Kane Williamson’s Black Caps comfortably beat the Indian side with 8 wickets to spare to emerge as the champions of the longest format of the game at Southampton.

And now, Pakistan cricketing icon Inzamam-ul-Haq has offered a suggestion on how the WTC final should be played. The former Pakistan skipper opined that the WTC Final should consist of two matches and a points system should be devised in such a way that both teams that have qualified for the WTC Final should play one match each in their respective home countries.

Inzamam concluded by stating that if the situation was like the limited-overs World Cups where each and every match of the tournament is played in only one country, then it would be a different case.

“My advice is that you make it two Tests, devise a points system, play one game in New Zealand – or whoever is the finalist – and the other in India. The result would have come out more fair in that case.

If it were like the World Cup, where every match is played in the same country including the final, then it was different. So, it is just my opinion that in the future WTCs, the finals should be on a home and away basis, hosted by both the finalists,” said Inzamam-ul-Haq on his YouTube channel.

India’s next Test assignment will be a five-match series against England

A challenging yet enticing Test series awaits the Virat Kohli-led Indian side, as they will next take on the Joe Root-led England team in a grueling five-match Test series on England soil. This Test series between the two sides will commence on 4th August 2021, and the first Test will be played at Nottingham.

This Test series will hold high value for the Indian side, as it will be their first Test series in the second World Test Championship cycle.
