He also went on to say that the T20 World Cup should go ahead later this year even if there is a little bit of delay.

With no cricket happening across the globe, the talks of playing the matches behind the closed doors have resurfaced. Before the global pandemic of COVID-19 started taking the toll, several cricket matches were played without any crowds in the stadium. The Pakistan Super League (PSL), was one of the tournaments which went ahead with no crowds in the stadium before eventually getting cancelled.
However, the Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis feels that the suggestion of playing cricket with empty stadiums is not a good idea. He also suggested that maybe in five or six months time, things will be under control and only then cricket can resume globally.
It might create more problems, says Waqar Younis
“No I don’t agree with this suggestion that cricket activities should resume soon even before empty stadiums. I think maybe in five or six months’ time when things are under control around the world and we get back some normalcy in life, we can think about matches behind closed doors,” he was quoted as saying by News 18.
According to the 48-year-old, the current situation is not at all right for resuming cricket. He said that maybe even next month won’t be right to start this discussion. “At some stage, we need to think about these choices but not this month or next month…the situation is not right for any cricket activities,” Waqar said.
When asked about the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia, the former Pakistan captain said he wants the tournament to happen even if there is a little bit of delay. Waqar Younis, who wasn’t a part of the Pakistan squad which lifted the 1992 World Cup, said that he wants to be the part of the management when the team lifts a major trophy.
“Whenever I have played for Pakistan as a player or been a coach with the Pakistan team it has always been my desire to see the team win a major ICC title. That is why this World T20 is so important for me and the team. I would like to be the part of management where we can win a major title,” he concluded.
