Ravi Shastri’s tenure as team India’s head coach ended post the team’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. A few days after ending his coaching stint he has opened up on his journey with the team. Under the watchful eyes of Shastri, Virat Kohli and company enjoyed some good success. However, the team is placed under major scrutiny for not having tasted the ICC trophy glory.

The team exuded great character to play fearless cricket and dominate the proceedings across formats. Shastri completed his impressive stint with the team on Monday, when India locked horns for their last game of the mega event against Namibia. Opening up on his time with the side, he stated that the team exceeded his expectations.

“When I took over the job five years ago, the team has exceeded those expectations and that for me is the ultimate thing. It’s not a regret, the team has done so well across formats over the years. It’s a disappointment. Because in my mind this team was good enough to win at least 2 ICC trophies (in my tenure),” Shastri said as quoted by Times Now.

Ravi Shastri had a glorious stint with team India

Under his guidance, India became the first Asian country to outplay Australia at its home. India registered two series triumphs over Australia in the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy. They also dominated the proceedings against Sri Lanka and West Indies in away tours. Team India then blew the trumpet of their fiefdom by securing wins against South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia in the bilateral T20I series.

India made it to the semi-finals of the 50-over ICC World Cup hosted by England and Wales in 2019. Under Shastri, Virat Kohli led side also finished as the runners-up of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship. The T20 World cup 2021 was Shastri’s final assignment with the team wherein India bowed out of the tournament in the super 12 stage.

It was also Kohli’s final tournament as India’s T20I skipper. Rohit Sharma is all set to take up the duty for the team henceforth. Whereas India’s legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid will replace Shastri as Team India’s head coach.
