If we trace the career of Dinesh Karthik, it has been a story of near misses. As they say, one man’s joy is another man’s sorrow, the glittering career of India’s talismanic opening batsman MS Dhoni meant that the likes of Karthik’s and Parthiv Patel’s always lived under the shadows of the Indian stalwart.

Also, with the career of DK, it is a living example of the popular saying, persistence does reap rewards. Out of the numerous comebacks Karthik has made for the country, the present one is due to his prolific run in the domestic circuit where he accumulated heaps of runs in all formats.

“May be it is (the last of comebacks) but I have not looked at it that way. If you start thinking on those lines (future in the team), you put extra pressure on yourself. I am satisfied with the way I batted in ODI series against New Zealand and would aim to do the same whenever I get the next opportunity,” commented Dinesh Karthik according to PTI.

On Ravi Shastri’s advice

Furthermore, the wicketkeeper-batsman credited the role India’s head coach Ravi Shastri played during his comeback which helped him leaps and bounds. “In terms of feelers (for the future) from the team management, nothing has been communicated. But regarding my batting, I did have a long chat with Ravi bhai (Shastri),” further added DK.

“He was happy with my batting against New Zealand but he said there are still areas where I can improve upon, especially maintaining the tempo of the innings since he feels I have all the shots. I agree with him and that is what I would look to do,” concluded Karthik.

Having said that, the Tamil Nadu stalwart also aims to make a comeback into the whites after securing the number four slot in ODIs.
