His bowling was not found to be mysterious by the English batsmen in the latter half of the recent Test series as he was fully fit. But now Ravi Ashwin himself has become a mystery as none in India’s domestic cricket circuit has an iota of an idea of his whereabouts. Is he in India? Or abroad? His absence could even see the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initiating an inquiry.

Ashwin missed the final of the five-Test series at The Oval earlier this month after aggravating his injury which was admitted by captain Virat Kohli. The 31-year-old off-spinner could not bowl more than one over in the first innings in the third Test at Trent Bridge and aggravated his injury in the next Test in Southampton.

He failed to deliver in the crucial must-win game and was dropped for the fifth match in which Ravindra Jadeja replaced him. Ashwin, however, had a good start to the series, taking seven wickets in the opening Test in Birmingham.

Skips Vijay Hazare game for TN

The Tamil Nadu cricketer was not part of the state team in their first Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Gujarat on Thursday which they lost by four wickets. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) had no idea about Ashwin’s location, a Mumbai Mirror report said.

It was said that Ashwin was not in touch with his state association after the England series ended and neither did he contact the medical staff of the state team. Mirror cited one official as saying that Ashwin missed the domestic tournament game since he is busy playing for Worcestershire in English county and that an announcement was made during the recent Test series.

But with his injury, that was unlikely and neither did Ashwin contact the National Cricket Academy for recovery. He though was seen taking part in a chat show in Dubai where Asia Cup got underway a few days ago. It is not known if he had taken the permission from the BCCI to attend the show. A BCCI source even said that the board could initiate an inquiry against Ashwin for participating in that show.

Another source from the BCCI communication team, however, said in an email that Ashwin is in Chennai and currently undergoing a rehabilitation after suffering a minor groin muscle strain.
