The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is all set to return to action for the third season in the month of July. This season is all set to be a bigger and grander affair. While two of the regular franchises will find themselves under new ownership, a new venue is also on the cards to be introduced into the scheme of things.

Tuti Patriots, who emerged as the winners of TNPL 1 and ended TNPL 2 as runners-up, will find Selvakumar, Jones and Jay Yes Foundation at the helm. Selvakumar and Jones are involved in real estate and construction in the state. On the other hand, the Madurai Super Giants (MSG) will be owned by the Siechem Industries, come TNPL 3.

New owners for two franchises, fourth venue to be added to TNPL

As reported by the Times of India, a TNPL official said, “Albert Muralidharan, who earlier owned the Tuti Patriots, sold his entire stake to a consortium comprising Selvakumar, Jones and Jay Yes Foundation. MSG, which was owned by Kothari (Madras) Ltd, will this season have Siechem Industries at the helm of affairs. The change in ownerships of these two teams has been agreed in principle by the TNPL governing council and the necessary paperwork is being put in place.”

The new owner of the MSG, P Damodaran is the managing director of Siechem Wires and Cables and also owns the Triplicane Sports Club. A regular in the TNCA League, Damodaran said, “The franchise will have my daughter Pooja as its CEO, managing the day-to-day affairs and taking all the key decisions.”

Till date, TNPL matches were played at three venues. This time around, the addition of a fourth venue in the form of the SNR College, Coimbatore is being considered by the organisers.

Speaking further on the third edition of the popular league, the TNPL official commented, “We are currently looking at the first or second week of July to start the upcoming edition. The Players’ Draft is scheduled to be held by the end of this month. It will give the chosen players 3 to 4 weeks to get to know their franchises and undergo pre-season training sessions as well.”
