'Took my spot in India playing XI, and now has taken it at Wimbledon too' - Rohan Gavaskar's hilarious reaction to Dinesh Karthik's trip with Sunil Gavaskar

India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has had a seamless transition from playing into the commentary panel. His commentary is being appreciated by all and the way he has stood against the likes of Ian Bishop, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sunil Gavaskar while commenting in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and New Zealand too as lauded by one and all.

It was during this commentary stint that he closely bonded with legendary Gavaskar. Karthik had in fact uploaded a picture on his social media too with the former legendary India opener stating how excited he is to team up with the man. Now the duo is again back and this time they went to watch a Wimbledon match together.

Rohan Gavaskar, Sunil Gavaskar’s son, was quick to react hilariously to Karthik’s tweet stating Karthik once “took his spot” in India’s playing XI and now he is again taking it during the premier tennis tournament.

“When DK (Dinesh Karthik) made his debut for India, he took my spot in the playing XI against England. He has now taken my spot at Wimbledon too (laughing emojis) Hope you guys had some strawberries and cream and washed it down with some Pimms, buddy,” Rohan wrote in response to DK’s tweet.

Well, Rohan Gavaskar’s tweet has some relevance as it was indeed Karthik who replaced the southpaw in the Indian team during India’s tour to England in 2004. Rohan got to play 11 ODIs but sadly could not get going in those games, as he scored only 151 runs.

Rohan Gavaskar optimistic about India bouncing back from WTC Final loss

The 45-year-old has backed India to bounce back after the WTC Final loss against New Zealand on June 23. He feels one defeat cannot determine the team’s glorious run in two years in the WTC cycle.

Rohan said on the YouTube channel ‘Cricket Life Stories’, “This is an excellent cricket side. You’ve got quality cricketers in this team. Yes, New Zealand were better than us in that Test but that doesn’t take away anything from the fact that we have done well in the last couple of years.”

After a 42-day break, India will take on England in a five-match Test series starting on August 4.
