Top 10 Batsmen with most consecutive innings without a duck in T20s

Batting is an art that involves many things that should go right at the same time. You have to react within a fraction of a second, choose the right shot to hit the ball, gauze the pace of the ball, line, length, etc and hit it with precise timing and power to get runs. This becomes even more difficult in the T20 format; where it is almost mandatory to hit big shots from ball one. These 10 batsmen managed to do so without fail and by fail, we mean not getting out for a duck for a very long time even in the slam-bang T20 format. Here are the 10 batsmen who played the most consecutive innings without a duck in T20s. (* indicates a sequence not ended by a duck) 10. Abdul Razzaq – 72 innings: Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq. (Photo by Ishara S.KODIKARA/AFP/GettyImages) Abdul Razzaq, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket in order to play in the T20 Masters Championship League, went 72 innings from 19 Feb 2010 to 20 Jun 2012 without a duck for over 2 and a half years in the format. He has played with distinction for Pakistan in international cricket in every format including T20 but was ignored for the latter part of his career. He elongated his career by appearing for many T20 teams around the world. 9. Mark Boucher – 76* innings: South African Mark Boucher. (Photo by ALEXANDER JOE/AFP/Getty Images) The best South African wicketkeeper of all time, Mark Boucher had a storied career since the time he took over from Dave Richardson in 1997-98 and continued to render service to his team till his retirement in 2012. Boucher has played 90 T20 matches in his career and during a period of 8 years from 2004 to 2012, went 76 innings from 13 April 2004 to 26 Feb 2012 without scoring a duck in any match. His retirement came in a very unfortunate fashion, when he was struck in the eye with a bail, during his last tour to England. 8. Martin van Jaarsveld – 77 innings: (Photo Source: Getty Images) A journeyman cricketer, Martin van Jaarsveld, played a total of 136 T20 matches, for various teams across the globe. He scored a total of 2785 runs with the best score of 82 runs. He represented South Africa in 9 Tests and 11 ODIs during the 2002-2004 seasons, without much success. However, from 14th Mar 2007-17 Oct 2012, he played 77 innings without making a duck in T20 matches. 7. James Faulkner – 78 innings: Australia’s batsman James Faulkner. (Photo by SAEED KHAN/AFP/Getty Images) James Faulkner of late has been considered a pure all-rounder, thanks to his unlimited skills with the ball and handy hitting ability with the bat. His talent has been suitably exploited by many T20 teams in leagues around the world. Faulkner managed to play 78 innings on a trot without scoring a duck in from 2011-2015, a feat matched by a very few batsmen, let alone all-rounders. 6. Daryl Mitchell – 79 innings: (Photo Source: Getty Images) Worcestershire’s Daryl Mitchell played 79 consecutive innings without making a duck from 3 Jul 2007 to 5 Jul 2015 in T20 format. Mitchell opens the batting for the Mountaineers franchise in the English T20 league and has played a total of 110 T20 matches, scoring 1657 runs with the best of 68*. 5. MS Dhoni – 82 innings: Indian skipper MS Dhoni. (Photo Source: BCCI) Chennai Super Kings and Indian T20 captain MS Dhoni played 82 innings on a trot without making a duck from 31 Aug 2011 to 17 Sept 2014. This included the World T20 2012 and 2014 and IPL 2012, 2013 and 2014; not counting the other T20 internationals he played for India. One of the best captains in modern era and probably the best wicketkeeper currently in limited overs format, Dhoni has played a 245 T20 matches across all competitions and scored 4954 runs with the best of 73*. He has also hit 208 sixes in those 245 matches. 4. Darren Stevens – 82 innings: (Photo Source: Getty Images) English player Darren Stevens went 82 innings consecutively without scoring a duck in T20 format from 2008 to 2013. Stevens has played T20 cricket in Bangladesh apart from English league and in total has played 180 T20 matches. The 39 year old all-rounder has 3689 runs to his name with the best of 90 and 99 wickets to go with those runs across leagues in England, New Zealand and Bangladesh. 3. Michael Hussey – 84* innings: Michael Hussey. (© Cricket Australia/Getty Images) Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey played 84 innings on trot, without making a duck from 27 Mar 2012, until his last game in BBL 2015-16 on 24 Jan 2016. Hussey played 150 T20 games mostly for Australia, in the IPL and in the Big Bash League. He scored 4404 runs with the best of 116*. Having played his last T20I in 2012, Hussey also retired from Big Bash League after winning the title for his team, the Sydney Thunder, ending his streak of innings without a duck. 2. Shoaib Malik – 89 innings: Shoaib Malik of Pakistan. (Photo by MICHAEL BRADLEY/AFP/Getty Images) Shoaib Malik, the former Pakistani captain has played a total of 219 T20 games for almost every major T20 league in the world. He has scored 6258 runs with a best of 95* to his name. Interestingly, he played 89 consecutive innings from 26 Apr 2005 to 5 Sept 2012, without making a duck. A handy batsman with a cool demeanor, he recently made a comeback to the Pakistani team by scoring lots of runs and even made his best score in Test cricket against England, a 245 and then announced his retirement from Test arena at the end of the series. 1. Chris Gayle – 145 innings: Chris Gayle. (Photo by Mark Metcalfe – CA/Cricket Australia/Getty Images) The pioneer of franchise T20 cricket, West Indian Chris Gayle was recently dismissed for a duck in the Pakistan Super League, after playing an astonishing 145 innings without getting out for a duck from 10 Feb 2012 to 5 Feb 2016. Gayle was the first man to make a century in T20 international cricket, he has played 272 T20 matches and has scored a record 9668 runs with the best of another record 175* in the IPL. He also has a record 18 hundreds in the format and has hit a record 700+ sixes in all T20s. He has made hundreds in all the T20 leagues around the world and is the biggest draw in any country he goes to play T20 cricket.
