The brawny left-hander was at his destructive best in 2002, scoring runs at a thick pace. Matthew Hayden brought his best performance of the year against arch-rival England in the 2002/03 Ashes series. He scored twin centuries in the 1st Ashes Test – 197 and 103. In all, Hayden hammered 6 tons and hit 1160 runs at a stunning average of 72.50 in 17 innings.
