Top 10 Current batsmen with most hundreds in ODIs: A batsman’s ability to hit centuries describes the talent and his capability as a player. Its not an easy task to score a century. This milestone acts as a motivation and fills them with confidence to perform even better in coming days. Some batsmen have an extraordinary talent to score hundreds regularly. It slowly becomes a habit for them. And, this wonderful habit of outshining their peers distinguishes them from the ordinary ones. Here we look at the Top 10 Current batsmen with most hundreds in ODIs: 10. Mohammad Hafeez – 11: Mohammad Hafeez. (Photo Source: Associated Press) Mohammad Hafeez provides his team with plenty of options as a player. An off-spin bowler and an opening batsman, he made his debut for Pakistan in 2003. He played his first ODI against Zimbabwe which was a forgettable one for him. However, his inconsistency eventually kept him out of the team for some time. Upon his return to the team in 2010, he struck the first century of his career in 2001, eight years after his debut, against New Zealand at Christchurch. From then onwards, he improved rapidly and his frequency of hundreds doubled. Until now, he has scored 11 centuries out of the 173 matches he played in his career so far. Straight forward, aggressive and feisty are the words that can describe him as a batsman. Gambhir made his debut in 2003. He was lacking opportunities in the beginning and could only cement his place in the ODI squad after 2007, becoming a regular opener for India. Since then there has been no looking back for him. He has scored 11 centuries in the 147 matches for India. His highest individual score is 150* which came against Sri Lanka at Kolkata. He narrowly missed hitting a famous century against the same opposition in the 2011 World Cup final. 8. Yuvraj Singh – 13: Yuvraj Singh. (© Getty Images) Yuvraj may not have settled himself in Test cricket but he surely has earned reputation in limited overs cricket. If he gets in his flow and starts hitting the ball, it is impossible to stop him. His athleticism on the field, canny left arm spin bowling and hard hitting batting style makes him one of the most loved cricketers. Yuvi debuted for India in the year 2000 against the lowly Kenya at Nairobi and took little time to cement his place in the ODI squad. His first century came 3 years after his debut against Bangladesh at Dhaka where he made an unbeaten 102 off just 99 balls. Overall, he has scored 13 centuries in 268 innings. He been going through a rough patch in the last couple of years and is currently out of the ODI team. 7. Upul Tharanga – 13: Upul Tharanga. Tharanga made his debut for Sri Lanka in 2005 against West Indies. However, he was unable to be consistent and was dropped from the team few times. But, he has managed to make successful comebacks. At one point in his career, this opener formed a good opening pair with the destructive Sanath Jayasuriya. So far, he has played 180 matches and scored 13 centuries in 172 innings. 6. Taylor has responsibly played the role of a top order batsman for New Zealand since making his debut at Napier against West Indies. Taylor has managed to score 15 centuries in the 153 innings he played for the Kiwis in his career. He is the second highest century maker for New Zealand in ODIs standing only behind Nathan Astle who has just 1 more century than him. 5. Hashim Amla – 22: Hashim Amla. This classy player has played in 131 matches and has scored 22 centuries in 128 innings till now. His highest ODI score of the 159 runs came against Ireland at Canberra in the recently concluded in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. 4. Tillakaratne Dilshan – 22: Tillakaratne Dilshan. (© Getty Images) Tillakaratne Dilshan is gifted with strong wrists and natural timing. Dilshan started out as a middle order batsman and gradually elevated himself to become the opener of the side. He has given breezy starts to the Sri Lankan innings in a list of matches. After making his debut in 1999 against Zimbabwe, he has till now played in 319 matches for Sri Lanka and has scored 22 centuries in 293 innings. 3. Chris Gayle – 22: Chris Gayle. (© Getty Images) Chris Gayle likes to dominate the bowlers. His assaults are very brutal and can hurt the confidence of the best bowlers in the world. Gayle is not very fond of running between the wickets but instead, likes to stand and deliver mammoth sixes. He has excellent hand eye co-ordination apart from being a giant muscular batsman. This jovial Jamaican basher has played 269 matches for West Indies and has scored 22 centuries in the 264 innings he has batted. His highest individual score is of 215. This magnificent knock came against Zimbabwe at Canberra, earlier this year. It made him the only 4th batsman to score an ODI double century. 2. De Villiers is a very versatile batsman and can bat at any position in the batting order. He adds creativity to batting. Initially, AB had an ordinary career but has improved his batting drastically in the last few years. At present, he is in the form of his life and scores runs at will against any opposition under any circumstances. AB de Villiers has scored 24 centuries in 192 innings so far. His highest individual score is the blitzkrieg of 162* runs which came against West Indies. 1. Virat Kohli – 27: (Photo Source: BCCI) Virat Kohli is hailed as a future legend. He has been in all kinds of batting records of latel and looks unstoppable. At 28, he has already scored 27 ODI centuries and is set to rewrite batting records. The speciality of this player is that whenever he breaks any batting record he breaks it by a huge margin. He reached his 27th ODI ton in just 169 innings. He is also the second highest ODI centurion for India, only behind Sachin Tendulkar. A large chunk of it 17 centuries have come in successful run-chases which is also a record and he beat Sachin’s 15 hundreds’s stand to take the top spot.
