Top 10 teams that have lost most ODIs: One Day International cricket has given us some exhilarating moments as well as some heart-shattering ones over the years. Defeats in crucial games are always tough to swallow. But many teams have over the years overcome this barrier and have come back stronger, right after a defeat. Since winning and losing is a part of the game, it is always preferable to accept being second gracefully. After all, there is only one winner in a game of cricket. Here’s a look at the Top 10 teams that have lost most ODIs: 10. South Africa – (194 losses): South Africa. They have played a total of 564 matches so far and have won an impressive 348 out of those and lost just 194 games. Their Win to Loss ratio (W/L) is an impressive 1.764 which is the second highest in the world for ODIs. Their average of 35.44 in ODIs is also the highest in this list. Bangladesh – (213 losses): Bangladesh. (© Getty Images) Bangladesh has played a total of just 318 ODIs and has lost the majority of them, the exact number being 213. Their W/L ratio is a disappointing 0.474 which is the second lowest in this list. Bangladesh’s highest score in ODIs is 329 and their lowest is 58. The way the Bangla team has been performing in recent times, they surely will improve upon these numbers in no time. 8. Australia – (300 losses): Australia. (© Getty Images) Australia has a played a massive 888 ODIs and has lost only 300 of those. Australia has won a staggering 547 ODIs in all and that is a world record. Their W/L ratio is 1.823 which is again the highest in this list. Their average in ODIs is also an impressive 34.07 and they have scored at a rate of 4.96 runs per over. 7. England has recorded a highest score of 408 in ODIs and their lowest score is 86. Their average in ODIs is nearly 30 and they have scored at a rate of 4.78 runs per over in One Day cricket. England has never been a top ODI team since the emphasis has always been on doing well in the longer format. 6. West Indies – (336 losses): West Indies. Their average in ODIs is a decent 30.11, their highest team score is 372 and lowest score at which Windies was bundled out is 54 in One-Day Internationals. 5. Zimbabwe – (337 losses): Zimbabwe. Their W/L ratio is the lowest in this list at just 0.362. Their lowest score in ODIs is a paltry 35 which is again the lowest in this list while their highest in ODIs is 351. 4. Highest score scaled by the Kiwi’s in ODIs is a massive 402. They have been victorious in 312 ODIs and their W/L ratio in ODIs is 0.893. New Zealand has an average 28.72 in ODIs in the years from 1973 till now. 3. Sri Lanka – (373 losses): Sri Lanka. Their highest score in ODIs is 443 which is the second highest for any team in ODI cricket. Their lowest score in 50-overs cricket is 43 which is the third lowest team total in the world. 2. Their W/L ratio is 1.193 and their average is 30.20. The highest team total in ODIs is 385 and their lowest is 43 which is third lowest ever recorded. 1. India – (401 losses): . They have quite understandably played the most number of ODIs in world cricket which is a staggering 904. They have won 456 of those which is the third highest behind only Australia and Pakistan. Their average is nearly 33 and have scored at 4.99 runs per over in ODIs. India’s highest score in One-Day Internationals is 418.
