He may have reaped the benefits of having an all-star team that included the likes of Warne, McGrath, Lee but he surely stood for them when it mattered. In the 2003 World Cup Final, Ponting carted the Indian bowlers to the streets and scoring a massive ton. The century dented the hopes of an Indian win. It was in the same year (2003) , that he scored 2657 runs from 45 matches at a mammoth average of 66.42. Ponting won many laurels in the year including ICC Test Player of the Year in 2003. 2. He was an extremely arrogant batsman, but there was a class even in that arrogance. He, like Sachin Tendulkar was once in a generation batsman. Ricky Ponting had two trade mark shots – the cover drive and the pull shot. It was just out of this world, no one have I seen play with such ease and comfort. Ricky Ponting scored 2833 runs at an average of 56.66 from 46 matches. Over both the formats combined only Sachin Tendulkar has more centuries than him. 1. When he started off his career as a 22-year-old, he already knew he was here to stay. He always emphasized the importance of rotating the strike and punishing the bad balls away. Even in 2014, he aggregated more than 1k+ runs in the ODI format of the game. He is a batsman you tend to feel was never out of form, he just eased himself through in every innings he played. The deft touches, front foot cover drives is irreplaceable. He probably ranks among the greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. He was equally proficient in both the formats of the game like Rahul Dravid. 2014 has been a fruitful year, he has scores 2837 runs at an average of 55.60 from 48 matches.
