Cricket stats are a funny subject. At times, analysts use stats to prove a point that adds new insight to the sport. While other times, we struggle and struggle and end up agreeing that stats don’t always tell the whole story.

However, there is one metric which is quite simple to understand and can be used to differentiate between two batters, strike rate. A strike rate is basically a metric used to understand how quickly a batter can score his runs.

Back in the early 90s, the run rate was used to understand how quickly a batter scores their runs. However, nowadays, strike rate tells us how many runs a batter can score in 100 balls, giving us a fair indication, who can quickly score runs.

In this article, let’s look at the batters with the top 5 strike rates in IPL history:

Out of all the foreign players who have played in the IPL, if fans were given to pick a few names who have given their best in the IPL, AB de Villiers is someone whose name is bound to pop up. The South African has done a lot with the bat for his franchises, though a silverware is still something he is chasing.

ABD made his IPL debut in the first season when he represented the Delhi franchise. After a few memorable seasons there, he shifted base to Bangalore in 2011. Since then, the South African has been the heart of the franchise. He has produced several memorable match-winning knocks and at times, has found himself saving the day for the side all by himself.

As of 2021, he remains one of the most destructive batters in the league, despite having retired from international cricket three years ago. He has scored 5056 runs in the league so far with an average of 40.77 and an exceptional strike rate of 152.38. These two numbers taken together make an ideal T20 batter, who is capable of batting at any given position in the order.
