Australia played New Zealand at Hobart in a very exciting test match. Set with 288 runs to win in 2 sessions, New Zealand went for the chase only to fall short by 65 runs, but drew the test match successfully with their last pair of Simon Doull and Shane O’Connor holding on for 64 deliveries.

The quick batting lead to Michael Kasprowicz to leak 33 runs in his 3 overs at the very start of the innings. This lead to captain Mark Taylor taking him out of the attack for the rest of the innings, and replacing him with combination of Mark Waugh and Simon Cook.
