Laxman Sivaramakrishnan picks his all-time India Test XI

  • Former Indian cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has picks his all-time Indian XI. The ex-leg spinner, who now works as a commentator, picked his ‘Dream Team’ earlier today during the ongoing 1st Test between India and New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.
  • Sivaramakrishnan’s XI features three out of the five members of the Fab 5 which played in the 2000’s for Team India. Siva also picked two out of the four spinners from the famous spin bowling quartet of the 70’s which dominated team in both home and overseas conditions.

Unless politics is kept away, there can’t be a resumption of bilateral ties: Misbah ul Haq

  • Pakistan’s Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq, in a recent interview, has stated that if people want a resumption of bilateral cricket ties between Pakistan and India then politics has to be kept out of the sport.
  • His comments come after the Indo-Pak cricketing ties hit another huge roadblock after BCCI President Anurag Thakur dismissed any possibility of playing cricket with Pakistan.
  • Misbah said, “As a player, I would like to play against India. I would want to captain our side against them. But unless politics is kept away from cricket, there can’t be a resumption of bilateral ties,” Misbah told reporters in Karachi.

MS Dhoni’s biopic to release across 60 countries

  • MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, the biopic of the Indian star cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to hit the theatres in hardly a weeks time.
  • The producers of the biopic claimed that the movie will have one of the widest of the release in 4,500 screens across 60 countries.
  • Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, who are also producers of the movie, said in a statement: “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is going to be the widest release for any Indian film in India and internationally. It will also be the widest release for a Hindi film (dubbed) in Tamil and Telugu.”

Pitchcam – An innovative camera ready to bring in a new view

  • The latest entrant in the list is the Pitchcam – which will be placed just behind the batting crease adjacent to the pitch as it provides a visual of the batsman going through his motions. The broadcasters make a square cavity adjacent to the pitch right behind the batting crease.
  • In addition, there is an underground tunnel for the Pitchcam which carries the visuals to the broadcasting room. Puneet Gautam, the director of the production, said that one of the things that were not happening in cricket was a camera placed really close to a batsman and it is the answer for that.

Maruti Suzuki introduces ‘MS Dhoni inspired’ special edition

  • Country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Saturday launched ‘MS Dhoni inspired’ special edition of the Alto small cars. The special edition cars will be available for sale at Maruti Suzuki dealerships from the first week of October 2016.
  • The special editions of Alto 800 plus and Alto K10 plus cars have been launched in association with the upcoming movie ‘MS Dhoni’ – The Untold Story’ based on the life of MS Dhoni. Dhoni along with the star cast fo the movie unveiled the car.

Pakistan announces ODI squad to play West Indies

  • Fast bowlers Sohail Khan, Rahat Ali, and leg-spinner Yasir Shah have been recalled to the ODI squad after having missed the T20I series. Sohail Tanvir, Saad Nasim, Rumman Raees and opening batsman Khalid Latif are the ones who have been left out of the ODIs.
  • The rest of the squad bears a similar look to the squad which played in the T20Is. There will be a change of leadership, however, as ODI skipper Azhar Ali returns to the scheme of things while T20 skipper Sarfraz Ahmed will play the role of his deputy. Asad Shafiq, who made a century when he last played for Pakistan in the fourth test against England, adds more strength to the top order.

Zaheer Khan wants players to prove themselves in different conditions in Tests

  • Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan, who is commentating in the India – New Zealand Test at Kanpur emphasised on the fact that bowling in Test cricket is about staying patient and getting the team the wicket when it matters.
  • “Look at this game. The first two days were evenly balanced. India scored 300-plus and New Zealand threatened to go past that total, but the bowlers pulled it back nicely.
  • “That’s what Test cricket is all about. How much you stay calm, what character you show as a team and as an individual over five days,” Zaheer was quoted by the Hindu.

CAB all set to make India’s 250th Test match at home a special one

  • The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) listed a series of programs for the second Test against New Zealand, which will be India’s 501st Test match and the 250th Test match at home.
  • “The hallowed turf of Eden Gardens last hosted New Zealand half a century earlier and in that sense, September 30, 2016, is another occasion of celebration,” CAB joint Secretary Avishek Dalmiya, said here.
  • “We just got a confirmation that this will be the 250th Test on the Indian soil which makes it historic and special. This would be in addition to the felicitation which would be done to commemorate the 250th Test match on Indian soil,” he added.
