Bharath Arun finds backing from Ravi Shastri as Bowling Coach

  • Recently appointed Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, Ravi Shastri, wants Bharath Arun as the full-time coach alongside Zaheer Khan. Shastri believes that Arun is expected to play the role of the implementor while Zaheer blueprints the plans. Zaheer’s role will be that of a consultant and similar to the role of Rahul Dravid who is the batting consultant during the overseas tour.

  • Newly appointed coach of the Indian Cricket Team, Ravi Shastri, promised for the fact that the team would receive more freedom under the helms of his coaching method. Shastri believed that players at the international level have very little requirement of coaching and it’s more about mentoring and communication. Along with Shastri, Zaheer Khan was appointed as the bowling coach and India U-19 and India ‘A’ coach Rahul Dravid plays the role of batting consultant during the away tours.

  • Indian opener Murali Vijay is set to return to action as he prepares to play his first competitive match. It will be the batsman’s first match since his comeback from injury when he takes the field for TNCA first division powerhouse Jolly Rovers. Jolly Rovers will face Young Stars in a TNCA first division league match at the SSN College grounds in the outskirts of Chennai.

There was nothing personal. I really hadn’t begun to understand the seriousness of this,” revealed Shastri.

  • Former Indian international and batting legend Rahul Dravid was roped in as the batting consultant for the Indian team by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Tuesday. Apart from Dravid, Zaheer Khan was handed over the responsibilities of the Indian bowling coach and both these legends will work along with the new Indian head coach Ravi Shastri.
  • According to a BCCI official, Rahul Dravid has his priorities sorted. He is not willing to take up the role of a full-time batting consultant for the senior team because his main target is to groom the young stars. Dravid is also the coach of the India A and Under 19 teams and the cricketer’s goal is to develop and push some promising talents into the senior team.

Rahul Dravid will not travel with the Indian team to Sri Lanka

  • India will play three Tests, five ODIs and a single T20I against Sri Lanka. But at the same time, India A team will be in South Africa. Dravid, the man who is now the batting consultant of the senior team, will travel with the A side to South Africa and will miss the series against Sri Lanka.
  • According to a BCCI official, Dravid will not be asked to mentor the team for all overseas Test series. He will only be called upon when necessary. “The clause is ‘he’ll be called whenever he is needed’. It doesn’t mean he will have to travel on every overseas tour. The board is currently zeroing down on the amount he needs to be paid on top of the existing contract. But one thing is certain that no fresh contract will be made for his role with Team India. It is kind of a part of the compensation,” revealed a top BCCI official while speaking to the Times of India.

Interestingly, the owners of Peshawar Zalmi are also owners of a team in South Africa’s global T20 league.

  • Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal, who terminated his contract with English county side Essex due to personal reasons, has returned back to his homeland without receiving a single penny. The flamboyant left-hander had a contract with Essex to play eight matches in the NatWest T20 Blast 2017 with a remuneration of three thousand British Pounds per match.

  • Former Indian batsman and selector Sandeep Patil have said that the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) doesn’t have credentials to pick the Indian coach. CAC has selected Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian team but Patil doesn’t think they are the right people for picking the coach. He pointed out to the fact that none of the members of CAC has coached in their career.

  • Pakistan cricket Veteran Misbah ul Haq, who has been showered with accolades since he retired from the game of cricket, has recently been inducted as a lifetime member of Marylebone Cricket Club.
