Chennai Super Kings keen on roping in Fleming, Dhoni again

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the return of the two suspended franchises back to the IPL roster. Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two years after the conclusion of the 2015 edition of the popular T20 event. In the next two editions that followed, Rising Pune Supergiant and the Gujarat Lions were brought in the tournament as the replacements for the Royals and the Super Kings.
  • As per the quotes in The New Indian Express, an official remarked the same. “Not just Fleming, we are expecting that other members of the support staff will also join us. Obviously, we would like to have Dhoni, but have to wait until an announcement is made in the process of recruiting players,” the official quoted.

Mohammad Irfan blessed with a baby boy

  • The tall Pakistani pace bowler Mohammad Irfan has been blessed with a baby boy recently. The out of favour international cricketer believes that the birth of his son will bring him fortunes and the baby boy would be his lucky charm. Irfan took to the social media to make the announcement about the birth of his son. The child is Mohammad Irfan’s fourth child. He is already a proud father of two daughters and a son.
  • As per the reports, his fourth child was born in a local hospital at Lahore. Mohammad Irfan was quick to pose with his baby boy and share words of care and affection for him on the social media micro blogging site Twitter. Irfan added the pictures of his new born baby and had a beautiful caption for the new addition to the family.

Reason why Virender Sehwag missed out on being India’s head coach revealed

  • Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was one of the fore-runners for the position of the head coach of the Indian team. He was among the 5 people shortlisted for the interviewing process of the most coveted post in Indian cricket. Reportedly, Sehwag had made a very interesting presentation in front of the Chief Advisory Committee (CAC) – the body comprising of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, and Sachin Tendulkar accountable for appointing the new coach.
  • As per the recent reports in Time of India, there was one solitary reason why Sehwag had to crash out of the race. Sehwag, who is the Director of Cricket Operations of the Kings XI Punjab, wanted to have his own support staff on board. This did not go down well with the CAC and also the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. A source noted that the experience of mentoring KXIP in the IPL made Sehwag believed that he would be suited for the post.

BCB to finalise a spin bowling coach in next meeting

  • President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Nazmul Hassan Papon has said that they will announce a spin bowling coach after the next board meeting. He said that the board has several options to choose from, that’s why they are taking their time so they can take the right decision.
  • Nazmul Hassan said that the first-choice options are not available as they have some prior commitments for next few months. “Options are being widened. We kept those first in our list, some of whom were no time for the next two-three months. So, we are in tethers what to do,” he was quoted by the bdcrictime.

IMG retains its contract with IPL for the next five seasons

  •  After Vivo India retained its sponsorship title rights with a mammoth Rs 2199 cr for five-years, BCCI retained the services of International Management Group (IMG) for the next five editions of Indian Premier League beginning 2018. IMG has been involved with the IPL since its inception. BCCI will be paying Rs 167.5 crore to the company for the services of the company.
  • Event managers of the tournament for the past ten editions, IMG’s contract needed to be renewed for smooth conduct of operations for the league. The agency has been involved in conceptualising and executing the tournament since its inception. Had they not received the rights in the next tender, it would have been very difficult for the new firm into the high-octane atmosphere of the tournament.

Ravi Shastri to meet CoA on Monday to discuss the selection of support staff

  • Newly appointed Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri is set to meet the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the selection of his support staff. The meeting is assumed to take place on Monday, as soon as he returns from London. The selection of the core support staff is to be decided upon in the meeting.
  • The 55-year-old former Indian player was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Since then, there has been a tussle over the appointment of the bowling coach, with Shastri reportedly rooting for Bharat Arun while the CAC appointed Zaheer Khan as a bowling coach. This standoff is sure to be a point of deliberation and discussion in the meeting, which might be attended by the acting president of the board CK Khanna, secretary Amitabh Choudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and CoA chief Vinod Rai.

N Srinivasan lands himself in trouble once again

  • Former BCCI Chief N Srinivasan has landed himself in trouble once again along with ex-secretary Niranjan Shah for attending a Special General Meeting of the organisation. Srinivasan and Shah attended the meeting as a nominee of the state cricket associations and have grabbed the eye of the Supreme Court.
  • The Supreme Court made it crystal clear while speaking on the issue that no terminated member can be part of such a meeting as a nominee. A bench of Justices Dipak Misra, A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud has issued notices to both the concerned people and the matter will be dealt with on July 24th.

BCCI invites applications for the Team Manager of the Indian cricket team

  • In the round of appointments after roping in a new bunch of head coach, bowling and batting consultants the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now looking to hire a Team Manager for the Indian Cricket Team. BCCI put up an advertisement for the job on its website and the deadline for the same is 5 pm on July 21, 2017.
  • Traditionally senior officials of the board or from its state associations have been handed over the responsibility of team manager but considering the recent developments where the Indian coach resigned following a fall out with skipper Virat Kohli and other senior members the manager’s role has gained that much more importance.

Afghanistan spearhead Shapoor Zadran donates his jersey to the Shahid Afridi Foundation

  • Afghanistan pace Shapoor Zadran donated a jersey of his to Pakistani legend Shahid Afridi’s charity which goes by the name of Shahid Afridi Foundation. The jersey has been signed by all Afghanistan cricketers including popular bowling duo Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi.
  • Shahid Afridi took to his twitter handle to express his happiness and thanked Zadran, the left arm fast medium bowler. He also thanked the whole Afghanistan team including the officials for signing the jersey. Support staffs to be confirmed by a 4-member panel formed by the BCCI

  • BCCI acting President CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and Committee of Administrators member Diana Edulji will combine to form a 4-member panel which will finalise the support staff who will work alongside Ravi Shastri. A decision will then be taken on the contracts that are to be given to the selected personalities.
  • “The four-member panel will look into the whole aspect of appointing the support staff and then also decide the financial terms of their appointment. In this case, the salary of the head coach will also be decided by them. The final call will be taken on Saturday,” a source told CricketNext.

Ravi Shastri to cost BCCI 2 crores less than Anil Kumble

  • Newly appointed head coach Ravi Shastri’s salary will be decided by a 4 member panel that has been selected by the BCCI. The members of the panel will be BCCI acting president CK Khanna, CEO Rahul Johri, Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji.
  • According to certain reports, Ravi Shastri will earn Rs. 7 crore a year in the two-year contract that has been handed over to him. It is known that Anil Kumble demanded around 9 crores per year which would see him earn as much as a Grade A player and was considered to be too high.

Appointment of Ravi Shastri approved, Zaheer and Dravid’s on hold

  • In the recent CoA meeting, the appointment of Ravi Shastri as coach was finalised today but the decision of including Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid in the team’s support staff has been put on hold until July 22nd. The Committee of Administrator recently condemned CAC’s decision to include Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan in the ranks.
  • As per reports, the appointments of other consultants will be decided by the committee in consultation with the head coach. “We have taken all the recommendations of the CAC for Ravi Shastri as head coach and we will further discuss with his appointment of other coaches. We have set up a committee and they will speak to them (CAC), communicate with them after talking to Shastri. The support staff has been decided in consultation with the head coach” commented Vinod Rai according to TOI.

Sourav Ganguly’s second statue unveiled

  • Former Indian captain and current member of the Cricket Advisor Committee (CAC), Sourav Ganguly was overwhelmed to see his own statue in Balurghat, West Bengal. The 8 ft tall bronze statue was unveiled by Sourav today in the presence of thousands other fans at the Bikash Maidan in Balurghat. The statue made by sculptor Sushanta Pal, depicts Ganguly raising his bat after hitting his first Test century in Brisbane, back in 2013.
  • The ‘Prince of Kolkata’ reached Balurgaht in the morning and after a short breather in a Guest House, Sourav headed to Gangarampur to attend a function. Thousands of fans waited anxiously for ‘Dada’ to catch a glimpse; he arrived at the venue around 11.15pm. As many as forty local clubs felicitated Sourav along with local Municipal authorities. In his short speech, the CAB President reiterated the need for developing the game in the districts. Later he headed straight to the Bikash Maidan, the venue of where his status is erected.
