Single-handedly will be a pretty small word to describe Glenn Maxwell’s performance during the T20I against England at Hobart as the Australian all-rounder starred for his team with both bat and ball. Maxwell registered his best T20 bowling figures of 3/10 that includes England’s top performers with the bat. Maxwell later scored an unbeaten century to help his team chase down the 156-run target after early hiccups.
All the stats and numbers that were created during the 2nd T20I of the Triangular series:
1 – Glenn Maxwell is now the first Australian to score a hundred while chasing in the T20I format. Steven Smith’s 90 in 2015 in Australia’s previous T20I meeting against England was the previous highest score by an Australian in a T20I run-chase.
1 – Glenn Maxwell became the first player to score a hundred and take multiple wickets in the same T20I. Shane Watson and Colin Munro are the other players to score a century and take a wicket in a T20I match.
2 – Dawid Malan became the first player in T20I history to score fifty and more in the first two matches. Malan scored 78 on his T20I debut against South Africa last year and exactly 50 in this game.
3 – This was Australia’s 3rd consecutive win in the T20I format at home. Aussies lost five T20I games in a row at home prior to these three matches.
4 – Number of balls Australia needed to lose their 2nd wicket in this match. This is the joint fewest deliveries they played for losing their 2nd wicket in a T20I. Aussies lost their 2nd wicket by the 4th ball in the 2009 WT20 game against Windies at The Oval. The four runs scored by Australia in this game before losing their 2nd wicket are the fewest behind three runs in the 2009 WT20 game.
6 – Maxwell became the 6th player and the first Australian to score more than one century in the T20I format. Maxwell now scored two centuries while Aaron Finch and Shane Watson scored one each in this format for Australia.
7 – Number of players including Maxwell to score a hundred and take a 3-fer in a Twenty20 game. The last of the previous six players with the double was David Willey in the 2015 NatWest T20 Blast.
