Team England head coach Trevor Bayliss is firm in his opinion about the participation of certain English cricketers in the popular Indian Premier League (IPL). The English team has had a troubled time in the last couple of months. They have been badly beaten and bruised in the Ashes 2017-18. Having conceded the Ashes, the team now needs to regroup for the limited overs action.

Amidst this backdrop, the discussion about the plethora of cricket that is being played and the non-stop action the players are having is coming to the surface. After the international commitments, the players will have the opportunity to feature in the IPL, which is a two-month long tournament. Some of the biggest names of English cricket have been a part of the extravaganza in the past.

Now, the IPL 2018 auctions are all set to get underway and the top cricketers are eyeing their chances in the competition. However, if English coach Trevor Bayliss is to be believed, then the England Test cricketer Joe Root should skip the IPL. In a recent revelation, Bayliss remarked that playing in the IPL will only add to the fatigue of Joe Root.

“We had that discussion a few days ago, I suggested to him that he shouldn’t play, that he should have a break. He feels that whenever he’s had a break in the last couple of years, it’s always been a T20 series. He wants to play in 50-over World Cups and T20 World Cups,” quoted Bayliss.

Root wishes to play

Last year, there were talks about how Root could have benefited from the IPL just the way his teammate Ben Stokes did. Bayliss mentioned that Joe Root wishes to play the shortest format of the game. But he has suggested him not to participate in the IPL this year and take a break instead.

“He thinks if he keeps missing all the T20 cricket he’s just going to fall behind and not be up to speed when those come along. It’s just a Catch-22 situation. There are difficult decisions to make. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” Trevor Bayliss told Skysports.
