Team Bangladesh arrived in Ireland hoping to get some good match practice under their belt. However, they saw their first game against the hosts being washed out. The second match of the tri-series saw the Irish spirit fall short against the mighty New Zealand lineup. Now, the action stays in Dublin for the third match of the series. Bangladesh will take on New Zealand in the fixture.

Both teams will have a close eye on the game since the series is expected to serve as the preparatory ground for them ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Kiwi side has been bolstered by the return of some of their stars from the Indian Premier League. On the other hand, Bangladesh would want to try their hands in the seaming conditions.

The conditions in Ireland are pretty much similar to what the two sides can expect in England for the ICC mega event. Also, for the Bangladeshi team, the series holds historic importance. They have never beaten New Zealand in an away game or at a neutral venue. They have had 15 opportunities thus far. Now, they would want to change that. The last time these two teams met, the Kiwis had whitewashed the Bangladeshis in New Zealand last year.

Toss: New Zealand won the toss and opted to field

Playing XI:

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Shakib Al Hasan, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Mahmudullah, Mehedi Hasan, Rubel Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza(c), Mustafizur Rahman

New Zealand: Tom Latham(c), Luke Ronchi(w), George Worker, Ross Taylor, Neil Broom, James Neesham, Colin Munro, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Seth Rance, Hamish Bennett

Focus will be on

Sabbir Rahman

Sabbir Rahman has been one of the most exciting young talents from the Bangladesh in the last year or so. He holds the key for his side. Rahman provides the dynamic nature to the batting. He has the capability to use the long handle when needed. Also, he has shown in the past that he can apply himself at the middle to play the long innings too. Rahman will have to fire for his side and get in form before the team heads to England for the ultimate showdown.

Tamim Iqbal

Tamim Iqbal is one of the seniormost members of the Bangladeshi team at the moment. He will be hoping to come out all guns blazing in the match against New Zealand. In the previous ODI assignment for his team, when the team toured Sri Lanka, Tamim was a top performer and had a century to his name as well. Also, in seaming conditions, the team would want some batsman to take an out and out approach to avoid the bowlers dictating terms in the middle.

Tom Latham

The stand in New Zealand skipper, Tom Latham, is yet to come up with a big score in the recent times. He is a highly potential batsman. His guts and grit were at display when the Kiwi side had toured India last year. Also, when the New Zealand team hosted Bangladesh in the ODI series in late 2016, Latham had hit a sparkling ton. The team would want him to come up with a similar show in Dublin.

Team Combinations

New Zealand

The New Zealand team has seen the return of Adam Milne. The young fast bowler was serving the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. Seeing the seam-friendly conditions in Dublin, the team management would want to draft him in straight away since he is an impact player with the ball. Ish Sodhi could be the one to miss out.

In the batting department, the team largely performed in the previous game with George Worker, Ross Taylor, and Neil Broom getting crucial fifties against Ireland. Luke Ronchi is set in his role of the wicket-keeper at the moment. Colin Munro in the lower order is only strengthening the lineup even more.

Bangladesh

The Bangla tigers will be bolstered by the return of their regular skipper Mashrafe Mortaza. Mortaza had to miss out on the previous game against Ireland since he was serving his one-match ban handed to him because of slow over rate in the Sri Lanka series. Rubel Hossain could be the one making way for Mortaza in the lineup. Barring that, no other change is likely to happen in the playing eleven. It would only be unfair to drop any player from the playing eleven since the last game was a washed out affair.

Stat Attack

8 – Number of times Luke Ronchi has opened the batting for New Zealand. His top score remains 37.

15 – Number of times the two sides have met at neutral venues or in New Zealand. Bangladesh are yet to beat the Kiwis in away or neutral conditions.
