The Indian team is currently in England where they are locking horns with the hosts in a three-match T20I series. Virat Kohli and his troops rolled over Ireland in a couple of T20Is after which they rolled over the Brits in the first match at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The second match will be played today at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. India are leading the series by 1-0.
However, their comprehensive victories don’t quite reveal the travails they had to encounter over the past few days. Two of their star players in Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah got injured owing to which they were ruled out of their respective squads. While all-rounder Krunal Pandya replaced Sundar, Deepak Chahar was roped in for Bumrah only for the T20Is.
Thakur in decent form
Recently, Shardul Thakur has been announced as Bumrah’s replacement in the ODI team. Shardul has been honing his skills in limited-overs cricket for quite a while. He was a part of the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL where he was their leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps from 13 matches. Albeit, with an economy of 9.23, he was a tad expensive, he pinned batsmen in the hour of need to help his team.
The pacer also played India A’s recently concluded triangular series against England Lions and the Windies A where he churned out eight wickets from four matches at an economy of 5.02. Thakur was their second highest wicket-taker in the series after Chahar.
He made international in the Blue Army’s tour of South Africa earlier this year and has played three ODIs and seven T20Is in which he has picked up 13 wickets. Meanwhile, Twitter seemed gutted by the selection and the users lashed out the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) surrounding their choice of player.
Here is how Twitter vented their anger
Shardul thakur is worst bowler… I don't know why BCCI is so Meharbaan on this shit bowler…

Shardul Thakur replaces Jasprit Bumrah. This guy @msdhoni is still handling the team. There is still a CSK Quota in the team.

Shardul Thakur has been named as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement in India's ODI squad for the three-match series. I want someone in my life to trust me like BCCI trusts Shardul Thakur 😐

My bad!!! I forgot Mohammad Siraj. He can nail yorkers at the death very nicely. Not better than Bumrah but he can bowl which Shardul Thakur can't even try to. Piss poor selection @BCCI!

Shardul Thakur replaces Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI squad. Shardul had a pretty good tri series but he's not good enough to replace Bumrah. My pick would've been Prasidh Krishna in the ODIs. #ENGvIND

Okay. So Deepak Chahar made into the Indian side for T20's. And now, Shardul Thakur has been named replacement for Bumrah in ODI's. 😊
JUST IMAGINE, IF DHONI WAS STILL CAPTAINING TEAM INDIA.. THINK OF THE OUTRAGE..! 😂#ENGvIND
