Australia sealed the three-match T20 series 2-1 after they comfortably beat hosts South Africa in the series-deciding 3rd T20I at Newlands, Cape Town.
South Africa opted to bat first after they won the toss and chose to bat first. Just some moments after the match had begun, it saw an amusing interruption after a squirrel ran into the field.
Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock gave a blazing start to the innings. Both looked fabulous at the start but, unfortunately, could have a bigger impact on the game as de Kock fell in the 5th over. Faf du Plessis and Rilee Rossouw had a dull day today and were dismissed cheaply. But, their lethargic batting did not affect the Proteas run scoring as Amla was clobbering the Australian bowler from one end.
David Miller joined Amla and provided him with some support with his entertaining 30 runs from just 16 balls, contributing a majority of runs in the 47 runs stand which the duo shared for the 3rd wicket. Amla gave the first inning a perfect finish by smashing two sixes in the last over to propel the Proteas team total to 178/4 in the end. Hashim, despite his efforts fell short of the century by 3 runs, ending at a fantastic 97 from just 62 balls.
The task of chasing down 179 runs was made to look like a walk in the park by Australian batsmen who cruised home in 19.2 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Shane Watson and Usman Khawaja first put up an opening stand of 76 runs before both perishing quickly. Skipper Steven Smith and David Warner the piloted the innings with a 79 runs 4th wicket partnership and smoothly threw the Proteas out of the game.
