Never in the history of the game had a warm up match garnered so much of attention. The first warm-up match between India A and England was played in front of cheering crowds. The match might have no significance for the statisticians, but for a cricket lover, it was all about MS Dhoni on the day. The match was the last time when MS Dhoni stepped on the cricket field as captain of the Indian outfit.
He did not finish on a winning note and a captain of his calibre did not get a fitting farewell as skipper. However, on the personal front, MS Dhoni showed glimpses of the rare gold with the bat. Dhoni’s masterly knock overshadowed almost everything that perspired in the game. Indian batsmen made merry on the day. Despite losing Mandeep Singh early, Shikhar Dhawan and Ambati Rayudu kept going great guns with the bat.
Dhawan ended up with a score of 63 – a sign of return to form. Rayudu brought up a ton and ended as the top scorer for India A. The highlight and attraction was watching Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni bat in tandem at the crease. Both players played the way they were seen playing a decade ago. Both notched up fifties. Yuvraj’s 56 came off just 48 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Dhoni was a shade better as he belted an unbeaten 68 off 40 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.
The best came in the last over of the innings when Dhoni smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes to finish off in style. India A posted 304/5 on the board. England openers made a brilliant start with a bat and that continued for the number three Sam Billings as well. Jason Roy’s 62 and Billings’ 93 off 85 balls set the tone for the run chase. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler plundered 46 off 38 balls and Liam Dawson scored a timely 41.

All in all, the English batsmen were a tad better on the day as they overhauled the mighty total scored by MS Dhoni’s men. They won by 7 wickets despite a late scare by India A.

Dhoni couldn't win his last game as skipper. The target was strong but apart from Kuldeep all the bowlers were out of place #IndAvEng

Despite a good outing with the bat, Dhoni's last match as captain in India blues hasn't been a successful one. #IndAvEng

Sam Billings is a fine player. Scored a vital half century in deciding ODI in Bangladesh but unlikely to play on Sunday. #IndAvEng
