A stellar performance from New Zealand with both bat and ball saw them steam roll the Aussies in the 1st ODI at Eden Park, Auckland.

Winning the toss, the Aussies invited the Kiwis to bat first. Little did they expect what came next. Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum put the Aussie bowling attack to the sword racing to 70 within the first 10 overs. Having announced that he would retire at the close of the current series, McCullum played an aggressive innings as he raced away to 44 off just 29 balls before being bowled by Faulkner. His opening partner Guptill too continued his amazing form as his compilation of 90 included 8 fours and 5 sixes. Although Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazelwood ensured an Australian comeback, Henry Nicholls held the New Zealand innings together with a magnificently compiled 61 off 67 balls. An onslaught towards the end of the innings from Adam Milne and Mitchell Santner ensured that the Kiwis finished on 307 in their 50 overs.

The Aussie innings began in disarray as Matt Henry and Trent Boult ripped through the top order. By the 9th over, the Australians found themselves at 41-6 with Henry and Boult picking up three wickets apiece. Wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade and James Faulkner led a brief resistance, putting on a useful 79 before Wade was dismissed by Corey Anderson. The Australian tail failed to wag as they were eventually dismissed for 148 thus conceding a massive 159 run to New Zealand. The Kiwis will be looking to carry forward the momentum as they face Australia in the 2nd ODI at Wellington on the 6th of February.
